Broken fuel guage fix
Broken fuel gauge fix
For those of you who have broken fuel gauges you might want to try this before you go out and spend $160(cheapest I could find it)
for a sending unit. the problem I had with my gauge was it would only read about the first 1/4 of a tank and then just drop to empty.
Part of the problem was you could gently pull the float arm away from the contacts and the inner one would not touch. so this is how I fixed it.
pull out the sending unit from the fuel tank. remove the 3 wires connected to the float assembly. then remove the float assembly by taking out the 2 screws that hold it on. once it is off take the pin that the float arm pivots around and push it out the bottom. now attached under the float arm are 2 thin metal arms with contact points on the end of them. take the 2 thin metal arms and slightly bend them away from the float arm. now gently clean all the contact points. put it back together and see if the contacts still touch when you gently pull the float away from the base. if they do put everything back together the way you fond it and see if the fuel gauge works. if not take the arm back off and bend the contact points out a little further.
Hopefully someone can use this to save a couple bucks.
