Angry Borgeson Poor Quality!!

Well i spent $580 last Monday and purchased a new borgeson steering shaft which is sweet!!, and a reman borgeson steering box. I waited for an agonizing week for the new parts to show up and finaly got them today. I couldnt wait to get them on and have a truck that drove like a new one, so I ran down to my dads shop and proceeded to put them on. I pulled my old worn out box off and the factory piece of junk shaft and installed the new ones. I flushed my lines and pump and put Red-line synthetic power steering fluid in and bled all of the air out of the lines and the new box leeks out the front seal where the sector shaft comes out. So I take it for a drive hoping that maybe it was a dry seal and it would seal back up during the test drive and it didn't, as I was out the truck handled way better than it ever had before except for the steering was really stiff and if i turned the wheel really fast it would freeze up and then steer normal. you would think that for the amount of money and buying a name brand part that you would get a part that doesn't leak and steers nice and smooth and not all notchy. What gives, has anyone else had this problem with the borgeson boxes. i thought that they would be of great quality be borgeson. Im going to call them tomorrow and tell them whats going on and hopefully they will take care of this.

wow sounds bad. You didn't hammer the steering joint on to the shaft right? I know that that can cause those things to leak.

No ,it went on with just pulling it down and wiggling it.
its not a bad leak but its dripping and if you pull the wheel it hangs up then starts to turn, also the sector shaft wiggles around like a hula girl!

bummer about the box! The quick steering resistance is air still in the system. I took mine over some rough bumps and it shook the air out of it then.

I'd be giving a phone call in the AM....

You can do that with the draglink connected but the tires should be off the ground, if you want to take the draglink off, you dont need to raise the front.
I think doing it with the draglink connected gives the system more resistance to push air out....

well it sounds like I won't waste my money on a Borgeson box, I think I'll just go with the shaft and a reman box.

Is yours the double U-joint shaft or the rag joint shaft? I'm still deciding which one to get...

I REALLY liked my box from PSC I got in 2005. Sold the truck in 06, and if it hadnt been a high in the mid 20s the week I sold the truck, it'd have made its way onto the next 3 trucks. Cost was comparable to a parts store reman.

OK so let me get this strait, i need to put a u-joint in place of the rag joint also? I bought a joint for the bottom and installed it and couldn't really tell it was much better.

thanks Dar

i dont think so. i replace the factory steering shaft with a rag joint/u joint borgenson shaft and it made a world of diffrence. but i could be wrong.

I have the 2 u joint shaft and I don't think it's worth the extra money or hassle to be honest. Getting the pin out to take the rag joint off on the column side of things can be near to impossible sometimes. I had to grind the pin right out of it and ground right through to the shaft to release the tension and even then it was hard.

oh and I second air in the system too. When I replaced my box and lines it took quite a while to work all the air out and the symptoms were the same as you describe
