I am not sure I understand how to determine which shaft I need. They advertise two. The difference in price through Summit is only about 5 bucks. Whats the scoop?

One is for post-93, the other is for 93 and back, I believe. All first gen's have the same shaft, AFAIK.

No, they are both for same years. Somewhat different shaft. On the top side one terminates with a disc (rag joint?) and the other doesn't.

Ohhh, I see. The 940 part # is what you need. Check http://www.borgeson.com/TruckProductDodge.htm for more info. Buy http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...search.aspere: first one on the list.

The 'extreme duty' model gets rid of the factory rag joint in favor of another universal. This is, IMO, overkill for the daily driver. Just get a new rag if yours is worn and go from there.

Thanks for the Borgeson link. They show about $35.00 difference between the two. Summit shows 5 cheaper unless they have their pics messed up! It might be worth while for 4 bucks less to get the overkill except the Borgeson site says...

"You must verify that the rag joint can be removed from the column before ordering." I am not sure what that involves but it sounds like they all don't come off.

I'm guessing some are splined to the shaft that goes to the steering wheel and some are just pressed on, maybe? Got me on that one.

I put the double joint shaft on mine. Check the rag joint thingy on the upper shaft (where it comes out of the firewall). Some are splined and held on with a roll pin, some are part of the shaft. If it it's part of the shaft, you have to use the single joint unit. If it's splined and pinned, you can use the double joint unit. The only issue I had was that the shaft I got was too long. I had to take it apart and shorten the inner portion, no biggy. Bought mine direct from Borgenson. IMHO spend the little extra and toss the rag.

i was thinking the same thing about the h.d. shaft
but was told it transfers a lot of noise and is a littel harder on some parts of the truck due to no cushion

the e-mail i recived from borg.

"The 2 joint shaft is usually for trucks that either have over 3" of body
lift or that see extreme off-road use. You should be fine with the standard
assembly, Part No. 940."

and this is after i told them of operating conditions ect
