After a long weekend of elk hunting on the coast, we bagged a little black tail buck in the road. Little bugger could have taken two more steps and been off the road, but decided to turn back to the center and we punched him straight on. He got caught underneath, drug for 10 yards, and then ran over. He managed to dent my one good fender and bust the pitman arm at the steering box. We hit the ditch with no steering and were lucky to run off the road on a nice flat spot. Poor old truck got towed for the first time in its life. Sorry no pictures. I ordered a new pitman arm from Sky Jacker, same as the old one, after trying to find another make that would accommodate a 4 inch lifted diesel. I am pretty disappointed that a pitman arm would break from a little old deer. My buddy and I were uninjured and it could have been much worse; we were blessed.

 

Wow glad you didn't crash. Look at the extra leverage that longer, cast pitman arm has created. I much prefer the block kit compared to the dropped pitman. The make a block that goes under the arm on the axle, comes with new longer studs and all, a much better solution in my way of thinking.

 

Where can I get said block? I still have my stock pitman arm and this could be the solution. Thanks.

Bummer, man. I know so many folks who have had run-ins (pun intended) with black tail here in Oregon this year. One Guy I work with had a deer take out his passenger side headlight, fender and hood on a Monday and another oner take out the driver's side a couple of days later leaving him with no headlights far from home in the dark.

 

Rotten deer, here's my solution, when I hit a deer I just have to go hose off my bumper.
