BD or Suncoast

Both companies offer a torque converter for my truck for the same price. Which one would you guys go with and why? I checked Goerend but those are out of my price range.

Suncoast would be my first choice. BD may have a good product, but I feel you are paying more for the name than the product kind of like Banks.

Suncoast all the way. I'd actually buy a Suncoast over a Goerend if I had the money.

If you have a reason to suspect a weak flexplate, you might as well change it while you're there. But I'd look closely at the teeth and see how it is. I don't believe our flexplates are a known weak point, are they? Unless you're wanting to make HUGE power!
Still, if you want a new one, from what I understand a 2nd gen one is a little heavier duty, but will bolt right on. I may well be wrong with that though... . Or, go aftermarket and get a real nice one with a hardened ring gear.

did you call Goerend?

He doesn't list prices on his site for the converter you need. ONly the expensive lockup ones for new trucks.

Goerend makes a converter non lockup for a 1st gen that's like $650 w/lifetime warranty.

But if i had to choose between BD or suncoast, Id go with Suncoast

It's a common thing for our (1st Gen) flex-plates to crack around the crankshaft hub. It appears to be a 50/50 deal and isn't exclusive to bombed trucks. Dodge apparently recognized it's an issue and has superseded the 1st gen part number with the 2nd gen part number.

If you're gonna be in there, it's cheap insurance to go ahead and replace it. The worst-case scenario is a damaged/ruined engine/transmission adapter, torque converter, transmission input shaft, trans pump . . . . . ..

I was lucky years ago, with stock power, when mine let loose . . .

The replacement is basically thickererer (stock nested in a new one) ..

I've had very good results with the SunCoast unit. They're good people to deal with.

Had the same thing happen to my '93 that BC did. All stock too. Of course I believe mine was ultimately caused by a TC bolt backing out and rubbing against the adapter plate. Made a lot of noise.

If you didn't call him I'm not sure why you said he was expensive....he doesn't list the prices on his site for the converter you are looking for.

No I just saw his other converter prices and had heard the only one he had for our trucks was around 950.00. Ill try to get a line out and call him on Monday. I wasnt trying to say anything bad about his company or him. If i came across that way I apologise.

I think goerend has two different converters...both should work well in a mild application.
