BD Diesel injectors?
I've studied all the stickys, looked at the injector list on 1stgen. and studied just about everybody's sig. I am now officially confused. the 190's seem NOT to be much bang for the buck, and PODs seem to have mixed satisfaction either with performance or too much smoke after run up.
Since I just found out BD isnt going to warranty my 230hp pump, looks like I'll be keeping a 160VE spare on the truck and eventually buy a fuel pin, gov spring, and get as close to the "old" pump as I can. The 16cm2 will be replaced by an HX35w as well. BD issued me a partial core credit instead of replacing the broken pump, so I'd like to spend that on injectors. Are the XXX IJs from BD actually PODs? The article in DP used DDP's injectors, I think 75hp? But they stated light smoke after run up. Will the truck run better with more injector, and a turn or two back out on the happy screw, to eliminate smoke under load?

I would get your money and have some customs cut. 700 and 100 core and you're in. I really liked my 435's but I wanted more so 6X.014's this time but stock pattern. Or if it's one of those instore credits get a manifold. It's money well spent. And you'll be happier with your HX35 if you upgrade the compressor. I don't know does BD make a Comp. upgrade for the HX35? I know HTT does. But that don't help with the credit part sorry.
That sux that BD isnt standing behind there pump. Any insight as to why? I'm curious because I was thinking about that pump as a future mod.
As for injectors, what about EDM's? I hear they make power and less smoke.

In a nutshell, it's against the rules (read Warranty) to turn ANY adjustment on their pump, even the idle screw. I was chastized for that too....
If you install it on your truck, and the idle is too high, or performance is off you are supposed to remove it and send it back.
I "tuned" mine, due to the fact that the boost and EGTs were EXACTLY the same as my old 160hp pump that had been turned up with the usual mods like turning the fuel pin, adjusting the power screw and star/AFC. I figured 1400 bucks should have bought more than that. After the tune, I was really happy with the performance for 8 months until it broke.
I dont want to flame them, but I can honestlly say I would not buy another pump from them.

I have BD's 40 HP advertised injectors on my D250. They are pretty good. really impressed me the 1st time I punched the throttle after they were installed. They smoke slightly when you punch it and also at idle.
Now on my W250 I installed PODS from PDR and I like those way better than BD's 40 HP. Yes the Pods smoke more at WOT, but the increase in power when compared to the BD set is worth it. Also, BD had a $100.00 core charge, while PDR didn't. So I still have my stock injectors from my W250.

I do think with a replacement fuel pin and gov spring in the 160 pump, it would be close to the same performance, but add a Ol'Smokey or Denny T pin to the BD pump, and you'd have something that would flow plenty, at least for a H1c or HX35. The world may never know....
I was looking into getting a 230hp pump rebuild for my truck. The more I looked into it and was told that all it is simple adjustments. My pump was rebuilt once before and the guy did a hack job. 1st he said he will help us adjust the the pump to get it running good. Then it was a different story after he got our money saying you will never get over 300hp out of that pump. The only reason he said things like that is because he had no clue about the VE pump. It's running way better now without 95% he had sold to us then before.
Well, I'll find out Monday if the credit in "in store" or cash. I really, really dont want to spend any more $ with them. I'm just not convinced my tuning destroyed the pump, but what do I know, right? Hopefully it will be a cash credit, so I will have more a better selection of mfgs to pick from for injectors. So which ones should I buy? I'm planning on keeping my OE injectors, so a mfg with no core charge would be nice.

I dont have personal experience with them but I have read alot that they haze at idle and roll smoke at WOT. I really dont understand the massive amount of smoke they put out under heavy throttle, shouldnt it clean up if you have enough air going into the engine? I am really confused by them. lol

I look at it from this perspective, boost, fuel and exhaust restriction all need to work hand in hand. 1st genners s.o.p. is to remove air intake restriction, add fuel via pump tune and go with bigger exhaust or at least straight pipe it. Cool.
When we add alot more fuel, such as a custom ground pin, add rpm with a gov spring, the need for larger injectors comes into play. But by this time, the mixture becomes overly rich with fuel for each combustion cycle. Adding air (under boost) is as easy as adding a larger compressor, but which one? Only experience will tell us that. Recipes, anybody?
I am not a mathmatician. I'm sure their are formulas out there to figure how much air vs. how much fuel vs. how much exhaust restriction is correct. And formulas to diasect each of those paremiters as well as make our brains hurt.

I'm not going crazy with this truck. I'm looking for 350rwh thru a 5-speed.
A a maxed and bumped VE, HX35, maybe with a compressor side upgrade and injectors are all this truck will ever get. PODs, I only read about a little haze. DDPs I've heard good and bad expriences. Coming off of a bitter taste with BD, doesnt help DDPs chances any, but I'm open to all suggestions.

! Funny, because they charge more for them....
