basic upgrades

lately I've been saving up, and there's a few things I've been wanting to do to my truck. I'm looking to make it a better truck in general, with a few slight performance mods. so if I feel like showing off, I can. these ideas are in no desired order

  1. install a tachometer (have the tach, just need to wire/mount it)
  2. upgrade to 2nd gen or 3rd gen seats
  3. maybe get a new compression wheel for my stock HC1, or just new turbo?
  4. governor spring.
  5. convert my dash panel to LED
  6. convert to 4x4, maybe with airbags.

lately I've been thinking about advancing my timing, I found a video to guide me and I was wondering if you guys thought this is the proper way of advancing the timing.

any ideas on what I should do first, or parts to use would be appreciated, thanks.

You will be better off selling your truck and buying a 4X4 as apposed to trying to convert it. There is more involved than adding a transfer case and front differential.
Rerigging your throttle to obtain full throttle travel will give you about 3200RPM without the spring.
You can find better good used turbos for about the same price as upgrading the H1C.

As far as 4X4 swaps go the first gen dodge is one of the easiest. You need the parts from a doner and the ability to measure and drill holes accurately. Really not too bad.

The HX35 is a common turbo swap You get a 12cm waste gated turbine housing and a 56MM compressor wheel. With the H1c upgrade you can run a waste gated or non waste gated turbine housing and pick the cm of the housing that works best for your application with a 60mm compressor wheel and housing. And while it is apart I would replace the bushings.

Just my opinion

Turbine housings are interchangeable between the H1C and HX35.

that's what I thought. A short non waste gated housing wouldn't move the exhaust back against the heater motor

I am thinking on the H1C upgrade for mine. I guess it is six of one half dozen of the other.

Anything would be an improvement on mine. It is a 90' non IC and it has the baby H1c 50mm compressor and the 18cm turbine. IF I upgrade I was going to go with the 60mm compressor and a 14cm turbine.

Preferences. If I had a "baby", I'd put an HX35 with a 60mm compressor on the 18cm2 housing. It should run pretty cool and supply a bit of extra CFM. Good for towing with modest tuning and injectors.

alright thanks guys. I'm gonna keep my eye out for a new turbo. and/or a possible donor truck. I think my truck would be really nice if it was 4x4 but since everyone wants $5000 more than what a 1st gen is actually worth, Im thinking about finding a cheap 2nd gen 12v and stealing the axles and transfer case from that.
now I don't mean to sound stupid, but if i'm changing the timing on my truck should I be concerned about a possible runaway?

Second gen front axle is completely different. They use coil springs instead of leafs. And vacuum axle disconnect instead of locking hubs.
That being said I have seen one done that way but didn't get a close look at it.

**** I forgot about that. its easy to find a fair priced 4x4 2nd gen, but everyone wants so much for a 1st gen. I guess its back to the drawing board, or junkyard.

You can do the conversion. Try Ramchager centrhttp://ramchargercentral.com/ . Check out Jungles hangers. There are several threads on there on doing the conversion.

Jungle makes some good looking parts. Look here

here are the front spring hangers he makes from 0 to 5" drop.

This is what got me started thinking about how I don't like the way the stock ones are built.
