You might be better off with T-bolt clamps there.

This is probably going to be a stupid question, but I'm new so you'll have to forgive me:

What benefit does this provide over the ribbed monster of a tube that comes from the factory?

Looks cool, doesn't fall off a BHAF, whistles louder.

Hmm, I'm new to these trucks, but the stock hose looks huge. I mean, maybe the ribs cause too much turbulence or something? Just doesn't look like it'd be a restriction...but again, I'm new.

The hose isn't really a restriction...

most universal filters won't go onto the end of the stock hose because its a soft connection to the box.

The box is the really restricting part....it only has a tiny rectangle tube for the inlet.

Your K&n filter in your stock box is fine Subliminal....

Ahh, gotcha. Thanks. Was wondering what the deal was. The tube looks so big (that's what she said. )

i just ran into the same problem trying to use the OEM box. i didn't read any replies to this thread, only looked at pictures and assumed the OEM box had a 4" outlet. i'm retarded . i'll probably just get a BHAF and hang it off the end of the 4" pipe i have and support it off the fender with some sturdy zip ties. unfortunately i just put a brand new stock replacement filter in the box. what can ya do?

you'd need this 4.5" to 4" reducer if using the OEM filter box. i just don't know if i'd have the room to add it to my setup.

Gotta give the engineer who designed our air box props because it's pretty neat looking and works decent on a stock truck, at least they didn't restrict it too bad.....

The " ram air"inlet was a great idea but exection of it= fail because its so little.

I copied some ideas from previous threads and bored 1" holes in my stock air filter box, partly to relieve air flow restriction and partly in hopes of hearing my turbo (still can't). Also I bored a series of 3/8" holes thru the panel below my RHS headlite to encourage air flow to the mini air scoop behind. Today I'll see if my angle grinder with cutting wheel can reach in there to cut out a bigger hole without making too much of a mess. If I need to remove the bumper sometime I'll cut out a big rectangle hole there like some others have done.

I came up with a rather cheap, yet effective alternative to the BHAF

It's just a cheap Spectre filter, but definitely works better than the stock box. I just got that, a length of 4" exhaust pipe, some scrap metal, and made it in about an hour.

Gonna bump this thread again.

First of all, I removed the above setup that I posted about a month after I installed it. I got to reading and saw that the oil-based filters do not filter out everything nearly as well as a paper element filter. Since then I've just been running my stock airbox with some 2" holes cut in it. I installed an HX35 a couple of weeks ago, and, of course, the H1C air snorkel is too small for the newer compressor housing. I just want to use my stock airbox with either a stock 1st gen snorkel (which I can't find too easily) or a 4" cold air intake with the parts from airflo.com.

Falcon1 - did you manage to squeeze the 4" elbow over the 4.5" airbox tube?

That's what I'm wanting to do, but I thought I'd first make sure it was possible.
