Back bumper build
Thought I'd share the build of my back bumper with you good folks
Started off with a piece of 4 inch square tubin and some 1/2 inch plate for the drop hitch and mounting brackets.
Attachment 39423
As you can see I put a double bend in the hitch and it's a total of 12 inch drop. Then it was time to notch the tubing and weld the plate in place. To keep it from bowing or twisting, I tacked it to a piece of channel.
I'm really liking the look of it so far. Next to do is mount it on the truck and Get some measurements for the diamond plate. With 3/16 inch diamond plate on top of the 1/4 inch tubing and 1/2 plate for the drop and brackets, the bumper is going to be pretty dang solid. I'll post more pics when I get further along. Installing crossover steering and jungles frame stiffening brackets this weekend so well see if I'll get to work on this any.
Thanks for looking and suggestions are welcomed.

Very nice job so far!!
Are you making your mounting brackets go to the outside of the frame rails like factory or the inside. I was wondering if one would loose any strenght if they were done to bolt to the inside of the frame rails?

My brackets are going to be on the outside of the frame just like stock. I'm not sure it would make a whole lot of difference for everyday use.. Especially with half inch plate for brackets. I got the skirts and brackets welded on but didn't snap a pic yet. Bought a 6 inch receiver tube and some 5/8 inch D-rings and Just need to out it on the truck to get the other pieces cut. Wondering if any of you guys have seen some nifty tag lights? I got a led one but I'm not sure about it. Anyone try the tag bolt lights from custom dynamics? They look neat.

With age comes the cage
I seriously doubt there will be any lack-of-strength issue there..
I do the bumper air tank all the time, a couple of good end caps and a 1/4" NPT threaded hole in the middle will give you a tire full of air when you need it most..

I favor 6-inch box-section full-width with doors on the ends; it gives me a place to store my 48-inch pipe wrench and some tow cables. Will have to post a pic sometime.

I don't do any serious off roading and don't get out in BFE too often. With the diamond plate on top, its gonna total about 8-9 inches of step. I think factory is about the same. I have a toolbox for all my other junk. Just building this so if someone rear ends me... They'll know it forsure. Plus, it's gonna look sweet!

Got some more work done today! Just some welding left and then paint... Would have it done but I installed crossover steering this weekend too! It's sweet.
Yes I know it's a little crooked! I had to tweak the mounting bracket a hair.
Thanks for looking

That bumper looks like something you could easily smash the front end of a cop car with..... you know, when you get pulled over after a long day of heavy drinking...

Y'all are too funny lol. Thanks everyone, finally got er' done today! Just weld some d-rings on tomorrow and then begins painting. With people wanting an arm just for paint.. I'm gonna paint it myself. I have some acetone to clean it with after I take a wire brush to it. Is acetone the best way to go? Paint thinner? Mineral sprits? I have some black auto paint with hardener but need to figure how the right mixture. Any tips or suggestion would be appreciated! Thought about rattle can but I know it won't last.
I'll get some pics up tomorrow... It's not going anywhere.. Triple welded the brackets haha. Always wanted a big TX bumper for the ol girl.
