Auto trans question

My transmission seems to slightly slip between first and second, especially if I'm accelerating harder. It's not real bad, but it's noticeable. Is this an adjustment-type thing? Also, what kind of ATF is recommended? Thanks -

Yes its an adjustment type of thing.

Adjust front and rear bands.

Go to you local tranny shop and get a metal accumulator piston. Pull your valve body and replace the piston. Factory one is plastic with a spring on it. Pull both and put just the metal piston back.

Should solve your 1-2 slushy shift problem.

PS ATF+3 is what chrysler runs in them factory.

Put two quarts NON-Detergent 30wt in it. It helps keep shifts firm.

Non detergent will not hurt the seals.

All it does is help keep the fluid a little 'thicker' while hot... and MAYBE a little help with the gription of the bands.

Putting Lucas Transmission treatment will firm up the shifts too, but I would want to adjust the bands first.

Do you put ATF in the crankcase too? Don't do it, not a recommended practise.

I'm not a auto tranmission expert, but Type F is supposed to firm up the shifts because in not as slippery.

Ok. Please explain to a transmission-virgin what and where these are. Maybe point me to a thread that can explain the procedure... Is it something a novice (but not an idiot) should attempt? Also, where can I find out how to adjust the bands?

Just in case - what should I expect to pay an auto shop to do this? Vs doing it myself?

Adjustment of the bands is pretty simple. There are adjustment screws/bolts with jam nuts on the side of the transmission. Kind of a pain to get a wrench on with enough room to turn. Most service manuals will give directions on how to adjust. Do yourself a big favor and pressure wash the trans first!
