Another Tachometer - Compact Digital

First let me say that I am a newbie to diesel engines in general. I know almost nothing of the mechanical on the cummins, so if my question is stupid, forgive me. I do know a fair amount about "gassers," and enough about diesels to know a fair amount of my gasser experience is worthless, LOL.

Anyway, I want a tach for my new to me truck. I have been looking around at several possibilites. Right now the budget has been streched kind of thin thanks to some unforeseen house issues. So, I have been looking for a cheap, relatively simple alternative. I found the one linked below.

http://www.compactinstruments.co.uk/...tachometer.htm

Anybody use this or have any experience with it? Would it work for our engines? I have not had a chance to go out and pop the hood to see if our injector piping is exposed. I know this is not the most visual appealing unit, but I am not looking to really bomb this truck, and I really do not want to add a bunch of big gauges, just a tach for now. Any help is appreciated.

A little more searching. I like this one better, and it looks to be designed for more permanant installation.

Several guys have the tinytach and like it OK. It's not something you can use for drag racing, but if you're just curious to know your cruising RPM it works fine.

I just saw that it "updates" the RPM every 1 sec. Seems kind of slow... Maybe I will jsut save up a little extra for the alternator tachometer stuff.
