Amsoil or Rotella

Gettin ready to do an oil change and... The original owner told me he always used Amsoil and I know it's good oil but ouch! Napa has a 3 gallon jug for $81.00 or I can get Rotella for under $40. My gut tells me to go ahead and spend the extra on Amsoil but would like some opinions. Thanks in advance

If you are going to use Amsoil, go online to amsoil.com and order it. They let you try their prefered member program for either a nominal fee or free and you end up saving more the initial order than the program costs.

rotella has a synthetic feel to it, unlike the chevron delo, i know some heavy service drivers, that have a lot of service miles out of both, im a huge synthetic fan, but for the price, at 1,700,000 miles, you could buy another truck new, im running rotella, watching the speedo accumulate miles.

I've run synthetic motor oil for about five years and whereas it's about $100- with the filter I change once a year regardless of miles, which can vary from 10k km to 30k km. I don't have access to an oil analysis program but from what I've read I could likely push the oil further with analysis advice. Mine doesn't consume any oil, and I add my old oil to my fuel additive concoction , ... regarding brands, I get whatever synthetic is on sale when I need it, so it's been Castrol Syntec, Canadian Tire store brand and Quaker State thus far.

I use amsoil and filter=~$100 a change. I change once a year, pretty cheap. I only put on about 6k a year but would do the same if it was 10-15k.

My vote goes to Amsoil. It is cheaper in the long run. With rotella youll be changing the oil at normal intervals. With Amsoil you can go 25k+ or 1 year+ without changing it, especially if used with oil sampling.

Some people will argue that Amsoil, or synthetics in general, are a waste of money on our vehicles cause the engines are already known to hit 500k-1million miles on regular petrolium oil. I say why not shoot for 2 million or more?

Let's take this one step further. Put a by-pass filter (Amsoil) or filter of your choice and you will never have to change oil again. Just top off and replace filters along with analysis. Of course this is only good if your rig does not burn oil.If it leaks fix it and get on down the road. I am an Amsoil dealer and my whole truck has Amsoil in it.I don't sell just take advantage of dealer discounts. Extremely reputable company with years of experience and research. They set the standards for other companies and continue to exceed the standard. Take a pen and paper and do the math...cost of changing oil and filters every 3- 5,000 miles, using by-pass, or just once a year. Amsoil will beat any other product.

For what its worth, I run rotella full synthetic in my '11 and the '01 I just picked up has had amsoil in it fot its whole life. I will switch it to rotella just because its easier to come by where I live. No one wants to ship oil to an island and with the slow boats that do there is added costs and headache. If you ask me I think most all synthetics are pretty similar these days.

I cant say about engine oil because I have always used Rotela ,But my 1990 CTD got 600,000 miles out of the old 727 auto with Amsoil in it, from the day I bought the truck. the trans shop said he never saw that many miles on a automatic and said it was time for the rebuild
