Amsoil for lube
Amsoil for lube
Does anyone run Amsoil in there trucks. My brother is a perfered buyer and can get it at dealer cost so I was thinking on switching over to fully synthetic. I'll be changing my oil once a year
I run the series 3000 full synthetic 5-30 oil in my engine with the cummins bypass system. Even at dealer cost (I know a good friend who is a dealer) it wasn't cheap. I've only been running it for a few weeks and about 1000 miles. Seems real good so far. I run the 5-30 because it's gets real cold here in the winter and never gets real hot in the summer. Depends where you live but the 15-40 might be better for you if you live in the warmer climate. The same friend that got me dealer cost for the oil has been running it in his vehicles for years and it seems to work out well for him.
I run Amsoil in everything I own, even my compressor!
I even use thier grease. I am a true believer. Cooler temps, longer life, better mileage. The only drawback is initial cost, however, I believe it pays for itself in the long run. My Brother and I purchased identical compressors in 1983 and mine has been on Amsoil since new, still charges up as fast as ever, runs quiet and cool. My Brothers? long gone.

Ran there ATF in it since new , last week the trans was just overhauled with 700K on the clock (orig, tranny) the tranny shop said it was hammered real bad and surprised it still rolled but he also said he never saw one with that many miles on it ! Im sure if I had towed a trailer with it I would never have gotten the miles ,But I know with out AMSOIL it never would of made it that far.
I just switched my Cummins over to the 15w40 full synthetic and am very happy. I also changed the fuel filter at the same time. I also switched the wifey's Z71 over to synthetic as well as installing one of their premium air filters and fuel filter. Her trucks seems to be getting a little bit better fuel mileage and my truck seems to be up about 1 MPG or so. I'm expecting it to get a little better once I drain and get all the old dino out of the block. I got the preferred membership so I got it at cost. Bought about $300 worth of stuff at once. I plan on changing oil in both vehicles every 15k. Don't want to push to 25k until I get some analysis done to see what's going on.
I did a comparison of dino versus synthetic. Based no the cost of the materials and figuring in my labor and the extended drain intervals, I'll end up saving about $300 a year in the Z and about $200 in the Dodge. The savings is more if I end up seeing an increase in fuel mileage.

I believe the Allies were developing the same, we just didn't need it as bad.
Synthetics were developed in the US and Germany at about the same time - both prior to WWII. Amsoil was the first synthetic made for use in the US market. When I first started working in aviation in the 1960s and we started to see jets come into the market they were using synthetics in their engines. It was as thin as water but I thought it would be great if someone would develope it for automotive use - enter Amsoil.
