Alternator question

... any one know how many 'poles" are in a '93 alternator? Trying to get my tach set up to run off the alternator after the 4500 install. TIA!!!

Your truck should already have a tach harness on it

Yes it does, but I want to keep the old tach I had... that read off a magnetic pick up in the bell housing. Being the wuss I am, I did not want to chance drilling a 3/4" hole in the new bell and risk cracking it. I need to know how many poles are in the alternator so I can figure out what Hz the tach need s to be set at. There are 9 DIP switches in that need to be in a certain position depending on ... poles in alternator, crank pully diameter, alternator pulley diameter and some other figure to plug into the formula. Have my signal wire now hooked up to the stator terminal in the alternator.

I have it set what appears to be pretty darn close. Just want to find someone with a photo tach... or whatever they are called, and see how it reads.

Have a link to what you bought? Heck, $20, I'll buy one for myself, how does it read, just off a reflective tape?
