alternator

Hey guys I just had to jump my truck this evening, which I haven't had to do with this truck since I bought it two years ago. I put my multimeter on it and it only seems to be charging around 12.5-13 volts, which I know means that the alternator isn't charging properly. I was wondering if I should rebuild it, get a factory replacement, or if any of you all knew of any performance alternators that would be comprable in price to a factory one?

Could be your voltage regulator, too. Check that it's grounded well and re-check your charging voltage. It's always good to have a spare behind the seat.

Before you buy a alternator you might want to check your voltage regulator. Its on the fire wall and ther are notorious for going out . And they are about $13.00

I agree with Charlie about the VR.

Also, charge your batteries overnight, let them sit for 6 hours without starting the truck. Measure the voltage of the battery and if it is lower than 12.3 your batteries are toast, won't hold a charge.

The alternator may be only putting out 13v cause the battery is soaking up the extra voltage charging.

You can replace the brushes in your alternator and save some bucks.
