Alcoa wheel lug nut questions

Alcoa wheel lug nut questions

I'm getting ready to put my alcoas on the truck. I'm doing a test fit. The lug nuts go on 5-1/2 turns before bottoming out. These are the alcoa lug nuts for the wheels. For everyone whole put these Alcoa classic on there truck did you have to buy longer lugs or was it a bolt on and go? What does everyone think of about 6-7 turns tightened down for lug nuts? These wheels are sweet BTW!!!

I didn't count the turns but the studs aren't long enough I don't think. Mine is like that as well. but I know I have enough thread engagement to be safe, I just don't have extra thread protruding past the lugnut.

I don't know about the 1st gen, but on my 95 4x4, I have about 1" of threads that the nuts bolt up to with the Alcoa Classics. The lug nuts are about 2" long. I torque them to 110 pounds.

I was able to directly bolt on my Ford Alcoa Classic 8's no problem. I used lugnuts that I bought from Les Schwab. The taper, threads, and size are correct. I noticed that the lugnuts screwed onto the wheel studs only 5-6 threads. I think other folks have ran into this problem before and just left it alone with no issues. I would say this might pose a problem over many many miles of stressful hauling and towing? I drive empty most of the time, so no big deal. I also wanted to let you all know that I got official word from ALCOA on the torque specs for classic 8 wheels:

90-100 ft lbs and retorque after 50 miles

The 2nd Gen wheels have longer lug nuts, and they are 9/16" instead of our 1/2" lug nuts. I know we can convert to equivalent longer/bigger diameter lug nuts for $

The plan is for me to switch back to the steelies come salting season to spare the alcoas. So I need to stick with the 1/2 studs I believe. Plus I already own 100 dollars worth of 1/2 inch lug nuts. sounds like the 5-6 turns will and is working. The truck is empty most of the time.

My wheel studs came from summit and unfortunately I had already purchased 1/2" alcoa lugnuts when I realized the studs were too short( only 3 1/2 on the front). So I went with new 1/2" studs...
