The low to high shift grind on the T-case sounds normal for an auto, I have to shut mine down to shift as was mentioned before. The exhaust rattle in reverse is also likely legit, I had an old bronco with a dual exhaust that cleared the T-case by like 1/8" and it would rattle a bit when the road got bumpy or the driveline got moving. Of course that was exaggerated by the torn motor mount, once that was fixed it got noticably better. Reverse will also torque the driveline in the opposite direction of forward. So I'd say it looks like a fairly typical first gen rattlebox

What is a cowl crack?

What it amounts to is a switchable check-valve in one (or both) brake-lines.

You set the MICO-LOCK, then mash on the brake-pedal, and the MICO holds the fluid-pressure against the brakes.

If you don't have any fluid leaks. it will set there until doomsday and not let go.

A one-line MICO (the one in the picture is a double) will hold a trailer-load of cattle, thrashing around, on rolling ground.

They are worth every cent and should be required equipment on EVERY truck sold.

I don't think i saw it in the thread... for the brakes...

It is VERRRRY common on these trucks to have one of the diaphragms in the brake booster go bad. It's a dual diaphragm booster, if one is bad it will be hard to stop but not impossible, if they are both gone..... good luck! anyways, last time i bought one it was like $75 and I changed it in the parking lot... so it's pretty easy.

This is my truck we're all talking about. Kind of weird reading about my own truck like this. ROLCOAL, feel free to PM me any questions you may have about this thing and I'll tell you whatever you need to know. I can also get you in contact with the guy I bought the injectors from. The idle shake started after I put the huge 6x0.018 injectors in... guy I bought it from said it did the same for him, and they were pop tested before I bought 'em. Runs smooth as silk at anything over idle, though.

Anyway, PM me and I'll tell you about whatever you're interested in. I might be able to explain things better on here than in person. I'm also stupidly close to just trying to find a way to keep this thing in my driveway!

That is my opinion; crank up the idle and I bet the shake goes away.

kind of funny reading all your post about the quirks of these trucks. I found it amazing how much we will put up with to drive the noisy old beasts , Even funnier is after a day or Two getting acquainted with the new old truck you can be driving down the road at whatever speed and you can turn to the wife or significant other and say did you hear that !!! mhhhh I hear a noise I have to check that sound as you pull over and stick your head in to the engine compartment it will occur to you AH hah I am now a diesel head

Idle is fine. If I turned up the idle so it wouldn't shake it would idle too high.

I don't know if I'll be leaving you guys just yet. I really, really want to keep this truck... but my second gen is in need of funding money!
