I kind of beleive the hype on some additives. The Lucus tranny stuff I have used before on slipping trannys and it firmed the trannys up. Now (knock on wood) my tranny is tight really all it has is a small leak down problem if it sits for a day or two but shifts fine. I just figured I'd give it a shot!

The fuel thing... I tried the 2 stroke and not a fan. The Standadyne stuff I think is good but it seems hard to find. I know what the FPPF products do and I like them, They work! Their bacteria killer works good!!

Most of us love our trucks on here or we wouldn't be typing on this site. I have been wondering what alot of us are using or not using!! We all agree on one thing the LS fuel needs some sort of treatment in our trucks.

let's face it , this is prolly true about fuel additives but we keep on using 'em. a lot of commercial diesel users swear by Stanadyne, which makes ME feel better

I'm not even consistent about my fuel additives since I use "Lubro-Moly" diesel hi-test in my M-B (it's much more expensive so it must work better LOL)

synthetic oils really are better in the engine, tranny and diffs

Personally I think most additives are snake oil. I do believe in some though. I've had good luck with lucas transmission additive in my truck and other vehicles keeping them from slipping and fixing them by not sticking or hard shifts. I am an amsoil believer and plan on runnin more of it in my truck instead of just my engine oil. I have had no luck at all with powerservice to keep fuel from gelling so i just forget additives and just run a mix of #1 and #2 in winter. I have heard good things about howes and stanadyne but never tried it.

I wouldn't put any kind of additive in engine oil, any good quality oil has a specific additive package formulated by the manufacturer and messing with that probably does more harm that good, except possibly zinc. As for fuel, I only use stanadyne when I prefill the fuel filter or when it gets real cold.

I don't add anything to my engine oil and I still use Rottella T.. ( too old school??) But was wondering what products are worth using in oil or fuel if any?? Lucas?? BG?

Fibrestar:

I have two Dodge Cummins Diesel Pickups, a 1996 12 valve and a newer 2006
Dodge CTD CR. I use "Stanadyne Performance Formula" in BOTH my trucks fuel and use it every time I fill up. I have been doing this for over ten (10) years now and have never had a fuel related problem.

My 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve is pretty heavily modified as you can see by my signature. I use "Lucas Oil Stabilizer" with every oil change and can report very good results with that also as far as engine wear goes.

Hope this helps you some.

I ran Howe's in a 3406E Cat once. I could watch my fuel gauge drop (faster than normal, which is still pretty fast being a Cat) til I had run a couple tanks through without it. Also seemed to be lacking power.

I run 2-stroke in the Cummins. quart per 50 gallons, that comes to 200:1 I think. The 4840 I'm planting with seemed to do better the day I tried it in it, too. Haven't tried it on a hot day yet, the tractor seems to have a missfire when it's really hot.

No one has mentioned the EPA-mandated switch to CJ-4 oil which is radically different from the oils intended for these engines.

From extensive reading on the subject, the general consensus is that, if you use the new CJ-4 oils, you better change it every 1500-2000 miles and you better use an additive that will replace what is missing from the oil.

Thus far, I have been able to avoid the CJ-4 oils.

I DEMAND old-school CI-4 rated oil and use a 12% mix of blue-bottle STP.

I have been doing so for many years in all of our engines with excellent results.

As for the fuel, whatever one uses, it does no good whatsoever unless it is added at a measured amount with EVERY added gallon of fuel.

Many have the idea that, if they dump in a jug of fuel treatment way back in the fall, that it will still be in there doing it's job when spring comes around.

I have had good results in adding a MEASURED 1-ounce/gallon of TC-W3 two-cycle oil with EVERY gallon of fuel, winter and summer.

I have used white-bottle Power-Service my entire driving career (longer than many of you have been alive) during wintertime, long-hauling livestock all over the states, in all kinds of ice-cold places, with other trucks shutting down all around me, and have never experienced a fuel gelling issue --- NEVER.

As for the Marvel Mystery Oil, I have used it occasionally, and have read of many that have been able to cure various sticky injector problems with a generous dose of it.

I would not use it as a fuel lube, though, as it actually has a drying tendency.
