A518 to NV4500 (HAVE A FEW ??)
I am buying a nv4500 that has a fresh rebuild and is filled with amsoil. I can also buy the clutch, thoughout bearing, flywheel and bell housing. I have a few questions.
(1) Is there a cross member that i can use without modifying it?
(2) I also have a hydrolic system off of a 01 cummins will that work?
(3) What else can yall think off that i will need?
Thanks for everything

the 01 hydros will work but the line is diff. you can get 2 of these fittings and have a Braided stainless line made or get the one they make.

the line is right below it. I have done lots of cummins and nv4500 conversons and these help a lot were the hard plastic line will not bent right.
If you use the NV4500 bell housing you will need and flywheel housing (adapter plate on the back of the block that the starter bolts to) and a starter off of a 94-02 manual or auto. the bell housing in the pic is one off of a Getrag 360 that I made fit the NV4500 so that it would botl right up behind a 1st gen with out having to change the flywheel housing. the bolt patern is diff form 1st to 2nd gens and they oved the slave form the side on the 1st gens to the back of the bell next to the trans case on the 2nd gens. The clutch/flywheel sets will interchange form 89-02. If you get one form South bend or any other maker there the same for 89-02
you will need the out put yoke for the 4500 for your 2wd

have the drive shaft made longer or shorter and use the stock yoke.
a manual doner truck for the pedles is good it can even be gas.

Nice write up 1stgen!
I am piecing together stuff I need aswell to swap one into my w350! I have a brand new, newer model nv4500 coming. I am buying a AA bellhousing to make the swap a little easier from a fellow member. I still need the gated shifter mount bracket for the transfer case shifter and the square tubing for the trans mount. I will just simply buy those two items from AA. Will I have to shorten/lenghthen my driveshafts for the nv4500? If not, then the floorboard is the only thing that needs modified! How far back do I need to cut out for the shifter? I read on hear before about 6". What do you guys recommend for hiding the hole in the carpet where the getrag shifter hole is? I dont think my rubber boot will hide that? I would love to find a nice used condition grey/charcole, 4x4, auto carpet! I would simply cutout where I want the new hole to be! Any help with the carpet guys? Also is the reverse light plug the same on the nv4500? Or will that need some modifing aswell?

Yes you cut the hole 6' back. if you tack weld the pice you cut out in the front and then glue in the pice of carpet some times it looks stock. You can even cut a pice of alum dimont plate to make a nice ring that is just a little bigger than the boot to cover the hole. the reverce light switch will interchange just put the getrag one in the NV. you dont have to change drive shafts if you had a manual to start with. Also reminber to remove the out put seal on the NV so that it will clear the coupler and over fill the trans 1qt so fill the t-case flange or it will work the oil into there and your trans will be 1qt low becouse it cant drain back to the trans.
Is there directions on here on how to do this?
