97' Wheels on a 91'
I recently found a deal on a set of factory chrome rims off a 97 4*4. The rims replaced my steel wheels and hubcaps beautifully. My plan was to cut the centre out of the plastic caps to fit my manual hubs in the front. What I found is the lug nuts on my truck are smaller than what is on the 97 therefore the centre caps wont snap on. Does anyone have any ideas on where to find nuts other than a wrecker or Dodge? The rims look great and when I get them finished I’ll try to post a picture.

I have 94 chromes on mine and yes, the lug nuts are different. Our trucks only have the 1/2" studs and I think the 2nd gens have 9/16 or 5/8..Something like that.
I wanted to have aftermarket centercaps, but the rims are made to be a slide fit on the hubs and you can't get them through. So now I have derby style caps on the outside of the rim that is held on by the lug nuts.. I looks OK and unless you look close you can't tell.
As for latchin on the factory caps, the nuts off of the 2nd gens are acorn shaped and clip onto the caps. I don't know of any 1/2 style nuts that would work like that or I would do it too..
Good luck..

Ps you might be able to tell with my photo what it looks like.

I've also got wheels off of a '97. I thought about trying to make some sort of hub cap work, but decided that it wasn't worth it for me. I just bought some big chrome lug nuts, and painted the hubs black. I think it looks pretty good. Just another option.

Mike

CAH

You can go to Blaskin and Lane or KALTIRE.. I got my last set of lug nuts at the latter and you can get em in different lengths. I think I got the longer length lugs just for show.

I need another set of derby's anyway.. One is now starting to peel after the last round of salt on the roads.. Need to seal them somehow..

We should hook up for a coffee sometime..

J-eh

Re:97' Wheels on a 91'
I finally got the wheels on my truck. To overcome the centre cap problem I used 3 - 35mm washers, on each wheel, over top of the nuts in a triangle pattern. And secured them with another nut over top. The caps snap perfectly over the washers. The front stud length was a little short so I had to ream out the washer to get just enough thread. I cut the centers out of the front caps to accommodate the manual hubs. The caps are about ¼” short of the chrome on the hub so I touched the hubs up with a little silver paint. The wheels look so much better than the old pie plates and beauty rings!!

We are running a set of 2nd gen factory chrome wheels AND CENTERCAPS on my brother's (I gave it to him) 82 D350 SRW. There is a special lug nut that has the correct thread size but a flared shoulder that is designed to allow the original center cap to be used on the smaller studs. They work like a charm and the truck looks slick with the factory center caps.

I will ask my brother to dig up the p/n and post back with it.
