Just looking for some input. 97 2wd 5speed Cummins,Truck has 300,000 miles, haven't looked at it yet.Thinking about a P pumped engine I can build up outside the truck then swap. Should I pull the trigger? What do you think?

I base my "what's it worth value" of a Dodge Diesel 3/4Ton on the following:

I take the value of a Dodge 3/4 ton GASSER in the same locality and in the same condition and add:

$750 - 1000 for a first gen
$1000 - 1500 for a second gen

Now if you want to pay more then it's your option. I figure the value of what you described is worth it. If it was a gasser in the same condition would it sell for more than $500 in your part of the world?

It's well worth $2000.

D70- $400
good NV4500- $600+ possibly more
Engine- $1200+

Way to much. ( as i run to buy it before you ). I had a chance to buy a 95 4x4 rusted out with a plow for 1500 and I passed it up. ( gives you an idea how broke I am) I wanted it for the non electronic auto as well as the p pump stuff. If the thing runs and the tranny is good it is a good deal. You know as well as I do what the pump set ups go for. Didn't you need a bellhousing set up anyway??

This is where things are of a different value to each of us. A motor with 300K on the clock to me would only be worth 6-700. 5 speed 3-400. Its all in what YOU are willing to pay for it.

To me a 'D' series truck isnt worth much, JMO. If it were a 4x4 and the body wasnt rotted off of it, it would be worth it.

Its all up to you and what you want to do

If it were me and the truck was fairly solid..... i would buy it and sell it for a profit. use that money for something on the 1st gen

Consider this.

97 Manual truck has a 215 Hp pump, score

NV4500 is a grand all day, any day, plus the adapters aint cheap.

Being a manual, it will have a D80............

2K is more than fair, 300K or not.

Pulled the trigger! MAN I forgot how much I love having a stick! She's got a little tap but It's probably poor adjusted valves. Pump is definately stock. Does not roll coal. Bonus is 3.55 gears. So now I have a 2nd NV4500 to swap into the utility truck and a D80 if I want to. Hydroboost brakes, 215hp P pump and engine will be yanked, resealed and built up in the garage to drop in the dually. Truck is actually VERY clean for a northern truck. Little hole on one rocker and a dent here and there plus a different color door. I'll just sell the rest of the truck after I rob the driveline. Anyway, I'm super pumped.

You got a 4x4 though!!

No Tables and Chairs Rich! But I did get all new windows and sliding door before the tax credit was up, and painted the downstairs bedroom and bathroom to get the little lady off my back! Definitely needed those brownie points to allow a 4th truck into the dooryard!!
