92 W250, Is It Worth the Price?

Here is the question, looking at a 1992 W250, 5 speed, intercooled, body no rust on the outside, mechanically solid, interior good, 211Kms (Canadian). Been repainted 2 years ago. Has rust on the floorpan, both sides, right where they meet the rockers, starts behind the front wheel and goes to about the end of the door, perforations has started. That is the only rust on the truck. Like I said, it runs real well, no smoking, shifting, steering all very tight. He's asking $7000 and pretty firm at that price. Also, he says that there are no glow plugs on that model, but it has an indirect heating system. Never heard of that. This is a Canadian truck, and at the Canadian price. Comments?

I just replaced the rockers and the floor pans in a truck, it is a chore. Is the rust controllable with some phosphoric "i think that's the right stuff" "Ospho" acid cleaning then welding up the perforations. Or is it too far gone? Sounds pricey for a rusty truck, but how bad do you want it determines what it's worth. Good Luck in your decision.

I'd be surprized if the rust was limited to just one (two) area(s) like that. Run your hand under the rocker part of the front fenders. Check carefully accross the top of the windshield. Also, if they salt the roads, check the silt/salt collector pockets that are the fron hangers for the rear springs. Stuff gets trapped in there and rots the frame.

For some reason me and you have first hand knowledge of that.

no glow plugs on these motors. these aren't ford powerjokes we have heater grids which are between your intake manifold and intake horn. you should be able to see the large wires running to it.

I have a 92 x cab 4x4 auto in the classifieds that is rust free and cheaper, still for sale. 2 years ago it may have sold for several thousand more, but the market has softened somewhat.

I changed oil today and I can't get over how nice the truck is when you look at the underside of it. It has the normal oil drip and grime, but NO RUST.

I am not trying to sell it to you, just an example that he may be asking too much for rust, which only gets worse without work$$$$$$$$$.

yes but you have to take into account $1 Can dollar = $.79 US right now. So basically you gotta multiply your price by 25% for it to be accurate to the Canadian dollar, then pickup costs have to be added. That said, your truck is pretty nice

I have a 93 w250 that's like brand new; never been in 4wd and never been off the hwy for 9500. I hate rust. It never ends. Look in the South and you will not be sorry! Just an opinion!

Too much

As its been said on here, the asking price is too high IMHO. For 7k Canadian, you could buy a nice rust free rig in the U.S. as long as you're up for a road trip.

What part of Canada are you in?

Thanks for the replies guys. Most of what has been said on here I've been mulling in my head. I've seen some nice US trucks, but the exchange is what makes me think twice. Plus the hassle to get them across the border. It's good to hear/read that I'm not out to lunch and kinda thinking on the right line. Featherman, I'm in Winnipeg.
