jimbo, mig is arguably the easiest welding you can do, i love it! the only thing i dont like about it is you can make beautiful welds, but if you're not careful, it doesent always get the best penetration. i went over all of the welds on my bumper (4 inch channel) and my reciever with 7018 stick, just for a little added strength. other than the broken hand, the bed was pretty easy to build. i had roughly 700 bucks into materials. not cheap, but its way more durable and functional than any factory tin box.

 

Sweet man I am 17 as well and sadly cash is not flowing as well for me as it is for you and that takes some serious determination to do school and work at the same time and on top of that work on the ol big CTD big congrats to ya man!

As to the bag setup...I'm not sure...mine are on the outside, like you speak of...

 

Even stick-arc with 1/16" 6013 rod will do the job on 18-gauge sheet steel. You have the proof in front of you.

 

long time, no post...heres some recent updates..ordered a pacbrake kit for a third gen and made some top brackets out of 3/16 flatbar to fit where the bump stops were.

I wish I would have seen your post sooner about the airbags.A company called justbagit.com has a nice set up for our trucks. Looks like you already have a set. If it still rides rough remove the load spring from pack and should ride better. Awsome job on the truck. I love to see the younger folks carrying on the tradition of these old trucks. Now....about the stacks! Don't know if I care for them above the cab like you have them.... but when I saw the side shot I was like hmmmmmm. Hey it's your truck and you built it so you should be proud. GOOD JOB!!

I have a friend with cab-height stacks on his 6.0, and that thing is LOUD! If it were me I'd have 'em at least a little above the cab. But you know what they say, if it's too loud, you're too old! Guess I'm too old. That sure is a fine looking truck Cris. Like Darwin said, that's something you should be proud of.

Have you driven the truck with the air bags in it yet? And if you don't mind me asking, how much was the kit? I like the fact that you were able to make those work on the cab and chassis axle by simply making new upper brackets and changing nothing else. If it rides a lot better, you may have just changed my mind about an axle swap. Thus, saving me quite a bit of $$$.
