91 D250 shift linkage slack
91 D250 shift linkage slack
Hey all, I'm working on a 91.5 D250 with the 12v and A518...the truck sat for 5 years before I rescued it. Now it runs like a dream and after a new paint job, looks decent too. My problem is with the shift linkage. I took the steering column covers off and lubed everything so it would move freely again, and I loosened the pinch bolt and adjusted the linkage so the truck would start in Park, but my problem is that between Park and Reverse there is a good bit of slack. So much that you can't manually shift it into 1st or 2nd. The slack appears to be in the transmission. Am I missing something or am I tracking so far? If it is in the transmission, how do you fix it? Truck is great besides this nagging issue...thanks in advance!
Check the pivot on the linkage cross bar from the frame to the trans. There is a plastic bushing used on the trans mount at that point. If it has broken and fallen out. You will not get the slop out of the linkage.
