91.5 w/no cruise: fake clockspring
91.5 w/no cruise: fake clockspring
This might be old news, but I didn't see anything in a quick search.
The horn stopped working in my truck, and there was a slight scuffing noise sometimes when I turned the steering wheel. Broken clockspring I thought (explatives deleted).
SO, I took the steering wheel off, removed the clockspring assembly, carefully pried the cover off -- despite the big warning label -- only to find nothing inside but a big empty space and a little slip-ring buried right in the center under the mechanism that locks the assembly when you take the wheel off! Cleaned up some dirt, got the slip ring to make good contact, put it back together, and stopped worrying about keeping something indexed that wasn't there!
So, if you don't have cruise, you may not have a true clockspring, despite what the part says on it . . .
