Re:90 dodge d-250 tranny HELP!!!!!!
Okie', thanks for putting that reply up, I must be gettin C-Nile or somthin... DOH!!

I would not hesitate to set your upper RPM at 3000 RPM.
You can quite effectively run these 1st Gen trucks up there without valve float. In fact I've been told that as far up as 3300-3400 is the limits of good sense.
Once at that point you should look at putting in the 60 lb springs. Nascar Mark has gone as high as about 3600 RPM, and he said he did not have valve float. (Hence the nickname "wildman" )
I suppose there is always going to be an engine with some weak springs that will have a problem, but lets face it, if you detect valve float at that level, you know for sure you DON'T have a problem if you just ease down till you can re-set.

I've been told, and that means not confirmed, that on a runaway condition, these engines will run up to 6000-8000 RPM before they grenade on you....
I know I'll never subject it to that on purpose, just like you wouldn't but it's an interesting statistic.

Bob.
is the output shaft of the 518 the same as the 727? i.e. will his Tcase bolt up to a 518 with no changes?
transfer case will bolt up. you will have to remove 518 4/4 rear seal. there is a groove in the 518 housing on the bottom seal it with j b weld or something similar. have 53k on mine with no problems.

Hey 90 Dodge'...
;D ;D I'll give a shove in the right direction.....just for giggles ok..
You might want to look at the throttle 'cam' were the linkage hooks up. Perhaps rotate the throttle open/closed a few times and look real close at the moving parts/levers/brackets..
Have your dremel tool ready too...
The throttle stop plate is not the only thing you should have checked along that line...
You're only looking for 1 more thing here and you're good to go...
Don't ya luv a challenge... ;D

Re:90 dodge d-250 tranny HELP!!!!!!
ok im thinking real hard now ???

i tried adjusting the throttle adjustor linkage (the linkage between the cable and the throttle cam) and while this would solve the problem i.e. top speed, it raises the low idle speed to about 1100-1200 rpm rats foiled again! >
basically i think if i "adjusted " the working length of the throttle cable (shortened it) HA HA SIDE CUTTERS HERE I COME my problem would be solved! ;D
does this sound like it would work or is this a stupid idea?

ANYONE ANSWERING SHOULD NOTE THIS IF MY TRUCK BLOWS UP YOU ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE!!!!!! (not realy i mean come on can you guys think of the logistics of my trying to get you all to pay for the repairs

anyways ill go try this and see what happens

Re:90 dodge d-250 tranny HELP!!!!!!
My cable seems stretched as well. Cummins wanted $65 for a new last summer, plus install/adjust time. I adjusted my linkage to take as much slack out without raising idle noticeably. I still have slop in the pedal though. When I get the new turbo and radiator in this weekend I plan to look into it. There is a plastic spacer the factory(I think) put on the cable at the pedal to take out slop. Either it needs another in there, or I have to cut it and put a new stopper on. The other end looks perminantley attached. Use to be on GM you could pull on the linkage end and tighten everything at once and adjust the stopper.

Re:90 dodge d-250 tranny HELP!!!!!!
If I'm not mistaken the choice you're looking at is using, or transplanting a 2nd gen system. You'd use the 47RH with lockup.
Now, to do that will entail a fair bit of work since you'll need the electronics to go with it, and control it properly.
Personally, I believe you can put in a pretty tight 1st Gen system. In fact there are some out there that will hold down that engine and make it work for it's dinner. I guess it's all in what your preferences are...

Bob.
