89 dodge non intercooled runs like no other

i just got a 89 dodge non intercooled truck, the guy wanted 400 because he didnt know if it ran or not... i brought it home and put a battery in it and fired right up!!!! truck cab and body is shot, but the motor runs like it has at least 300 hp!!! and the tranny 5 speed shifts smooth as glass. why would this 89 non intercooled run so good? do they all run like this? what would you have to do to make it run so good? i have turned pumps up before on ic dodges, but none have ever ran as good as this one, i smoked tires through 4th gear. i think it has like a 4,000 governor at least. i held it to the floor expecting it to govern at the norm 2600 rpms, but this one went so high i thought it was going to blow up. this one has me stumped bc i thought those trucks were turds..? i turned up a 93 dodge and put lucas pod injectors in a truck and it didnt run nowhere near what this one does. timing??

The non intercooled trucks run VERY good in stock form.

more factory timing then a i/c truck and quite a bit bigger injectors then an I/c.... a few other things as well.

You my friend got a really good deal.

I'm callin BS on the 4200 governor spring deal though. LOL. It's possible the pump was rebuilt and maybe someone put a 3200 gov. spring in it.

Get some gauges before you tweak on a non i/c though!

there are several differences between the non I/C and I/c motors. like mentioned alot bigger [4x.0012] injectors, timing . Ive heard the injector pump has better delivery valves, not sure. the piston bowl shape is different too. the cam has alot more duration than p-pump cams.i havent compared cams between non i/c and i/c. most of the changes made in 911/2 were for emissions, not performance. add a better turbo and intercool it for a usable 300+ hp.

If it rocks then most likely the fuel screw has been turned in. I had a stock 89 with all the tamperproof caps intack. It went ok but not a hot truck by any means. I had it turned up to about 200hp and was a good improvement. My 89 that I still have is at 297hp and that goes nice. Still not a hot rod put very respectable. My 93 rag is a pig dog. That will be changing.

I've got one of each,
I can verify that in stock form the non-ic truck was more powerful
that the intercooled truck.

My truck runs great. I would love to have it on a dyno just to see where it's at hp wise. Judging by my sig could anyone take a wild guess?

With 3" exhaust and stock intake and turbo I got 225 HP on the dyno at piers with my 727 auto 1989 d250. Stock fuel pin too no grind. no timing bump either. The only tweek was the 3200 gsk and fuel screw.

I wish someone I know would buy a 62/71 s300 and show that 400rwhp is possible with stock nonIC'd injectors. 350rwhp is possible with a hx35-16.

i can verify that when brother got his 89 5speed, it woke up in a hurry with 2 turns fuel screw, non ic injectors flow fuel like its going out style, and his truck still got 20mpg, his truck and mine run off PFM, pure edit magic

People make a big deal about an intercooler sometime but i'll take a much simpler electrical system over an intercooler anyday.

Its very easy to swap in a factory 91.5+ I/C setup on non intercooled.
