I'm having some minor issues putting truck into 4wheel. From 2H to 4H always some drama finding it. Always a grinding noise. Its either not in all the way, or not even close. You can't feel it "notch in" like in my 01. Always a sort of guessing game. Will replacing Tfluid with synthetic help or...?

I've tried putting it in while stationary, rolling, in neutral, in drive etc etc. always drama.

Thanks for any input.

If it's an auto it has to be in neutral to shift the transfer case. We had a ranch truck with an auto that the hubs had to be unlocked to shift in or out of 4wd. Don't know why but it worked.

I've had good luck (in auto trucks) to put the hubs in, get rolling about 2mph on flat land, go into neutral with the tranny and firmly pull from 2h to 4h. Gear driven t-cases don't offer much room for error. On your '01, the CAD system allows for some slop untill everything locks up.

On the 205 as long as yr moving, ya should be able to go from 2x4 to 4x4 with nothing but lifting yr foot off the gas and a gentle tug. Same with going the other direction (although it takes a while to get the feel and not end up in "N") This is assuming you have already locked the hubs.

Low case usually requires a complete stand still, transmission in "n" and it should slide right in. If the above doesn't happen you need to do some work to your shifter mechanism or possibly could even have some issues with the case it's self if a high mileage truck.
