My 89 had a utility bed on it which I took off. I found a friend of a friend's 79 dodge gasser that has a decent bed. The price is right, will it bolt up?

I've read that 77-93 stuff is basically the same. Are the bed mounts the same?

make that 1972 to 1993.

Body lines changed in 1980 though. Thinner Sheet metal too. You're better off with a pre 1980 bed if you're going to be using it to haul stuff in.

I think there is something slightly different about the attachment locations on the right side of the bed. You may have to either drill the bed or your frame.
Otherwise the wheelbase is the same so it will fit. Now get ther rest of the 70's sheetmetal and have a sweet retro diesel ride.

ya.. You'll have the powerwagon style box. Should bolt up fine. But the body lines running off the door and back of cab are different. But if the price is right, knowbody will tell the difference at 70!!

Actually the body line in the upper part of the door disappears befor the end of the door. The rear cab sides are the same in all years. The cove feature in the fender opennings will be the biggest difference. it is about half as wide on the newer sheet metal. The newer beds do have the upper body line, but it turns and goes down before it gets to the front of the bed. The pick of my rc here shows 77 bed and 89 front fender. The upper strip on the green part of the truck is alum. trim. under the trim the panel is smoothe.

The older tail lights are radiused at the top and the newer ones tops are rectangular. The average person probably would not notice this. I believe a set of newer style wheel arch panels could change the wheel arches to the newer style. What I've seen to most of around my area is the newer 80's beds on the older 70's trucks.

sounds good guys, I noticed the tail lights but I don't really care as long as they light up and the bed works haha. It's a straight bed, a little surface rust but that's easily fixed.

The taillights are physically different. You will need to use the taillights from the era of bed you are installing, and do a little bit of re-wiring. Very straight forward though.

You CAN NOT interchange taillights between 72-80 and 81-93...COMPLETELY different.

yup, I wasn't disagreeing if that was directed toward my post. I was just noting that I noticed that the taillights weren't the same as tail lights of 89-93 or whatever. I will be using the stock 79 lights on the stock 79 bed

My post wasn't really directed at anyone... Just wanted to make sure someone wasn't planning on using the wrong taillights.
