727 first gens
in what years might one find a plain ol' 727 3 speed transmission?
what kind of mileage are you poor non-OD guys getting?
and last, what kind of highway speeds would i expect out of a DRW non-IC first gen?
i think i've read that some of them wont break 70. would this be the case with 3:54's as well as 4:11's?

Ah man, what year did the 518 come out? I should know that one.
I see 16 on the freeway and 14 around town, which is about 4 miles per gallon below what I think I should be getting, but that's another issue. I think that there are people out there getting 20's. Yeah, between my lead foot and some other problems I could be driving a darn big-block gasser for less money.
I can run at 80 on flat land while freewheeling the engine a bit, any kind of load or uphill and I can only go 75. I'm sure a different governor spring would let it go fast enough to keep up with traffic. It bites having to drive around in the slow lane all the time.
I hit 90 once going down a very big hill, but that was scarey and I don't want to do it again.

Man... I don't know when the OD came out... 91, Maybe... Anyway, I actually see good mileage with mine, around 20, on the highway with the truck loaded... which ain't so bad, imho. My truck has the 3.07, so it rolls pretty good, but I didn't even know untill I backed out the throttle stop screw. Now its fast . I feel like I lose alot when accelerating or pulling hills, though. I might be in the market for a TC in a bit.

Your top speed is also controlled by the injection pump governor setting.
You can raise that safely to 3000 RPM and as long as you run good oil/filters you're ok....
