6" suspension lift

hi all, i'm new to this site and proud to be a new 1st gen cummins owner. i'm buying a lift for it shortly and would like to know from anyone that has put the 6" lift in their trucks what all they had to do. ie. steering, drive shafts ect. i bought a used set of 37" goodyear mtrs last week, so i'm all exited for this lift. What company has everyone had luck with also, skykjacker, superlift etc. Thanks in advance for your time and opinions. chris

I have the skyjacker 6in lift with 35's it is a good lift i like it alot. it is BIG all i did was put the lift on and a drop pitman arm but now my truck doesnt turn to the left that well. i need to get the adjustable drag link from skyjacker. i personally wouldnt spend the money on the drop pitman arm i would just get the adjustable drag link. your 37's will clear with no problem

You will need an extended front drive shaft for a 6" lift.

Really? I was told that one was needed with a lift of anything over 4" or something like that. Even when I jack mine up and let the suspension droop I can see about a inch of spline exposed and mine's stock. I guess you learn something new everyday. When your truck is sitting on the ground how much spline is exposed out of the shaft?

when i put my six inch skyjacker on i had to extend both drivelines so i just had it all rebuilt while in the process. I believe the front driveline is the one that you have to extend but i dont know. anyhoo, mine can barely clear the 36 buckshots that i roll and i do have the adjustable drag link as well from skyjacker. its a good system overall but i would recommend buying shocks seperately and getting a good set as well as doing the rear springs instead of blocks because you will eventually want the springs in the rear as i do..have fun

I have the 6 inch lift with 37's and they only rub when you turn hard and hit a bump other than that its good. I did have to extend my driveshaft because it would slip out if you jammed on the brakes rolling backwards.

murphy85. did you get the rear springs to go with your setup? I got blocks and an add a leaf in the rear and i cant stand the dang thing. do you know what the price would be for a set of rears just by themselves? not to hijack the thread just kind of a simple question to start a new one up? thats weird yours only rub turning hard because mine do too but i really cant get a whole lot of flex. i still havent seen you driving around gresham..

thanks for all the replys, so let me see, does the skyjacker lift come with the rear lifts or not?? if not how much extra? and you dont need the drop pit arm? but get the new drag links? and how much for the new front shaft?? how much longer does it need to be?? my uncle has lathes and everything, and hes going to be building me a new rear soon, so shuld i get that one like a inch or two longer?? i'm new to this stuff so i'm kinda in a rut with no 4x4. thanks again. chris

I had a drive shaft shortened a few years ago. with new joints it was right around 100.00. making it longer probally is more. I'm going to be doing a lift on my truck this spring.

My 93 only has a 4" lift and I'm running 315's. The only problem I have is the drop pitman rubs when turning right and doesn't allow for a very sharp turn to the right. Is there any fix for that??????

Wheels with less backspacing. I have some pretty bad vibration from my front driveline. I've got a longer high angle cv shaft. My local shop says that I just have to live with the vibration as Dodges have problems with anything over 4" of lift. Anyone else have this problem?

Pure BS. They don't have the talent or willingness to work the problem. I don't know the specifics of your particular situation, but I do know any mechanical problem can be solved with the right parts and people to put it together.

Just my $.02

the system will come with an all around lift including the rear. HOWEVER...if you intend on using this truck much at all off road i would highly recommend upgrading to rear springs which will give you a whole new set of rear springs with six inches of lift (maybe 4 in the rear and six in the front). I would wait for some input from the guys who have the springs to see if they are worth the money but i can only imagine how much better they sound to me. My rear sits on two blocks now that the lift is in (add a leaf/rear blocks) and when you use springs i think it utuilizes the original factory block and does not add anymore block lift in the rear. I would imagine that the rear springs will perform much better and as with anything you get what you pay for. I wish i would have just ordered the lift with rear springs. it also might be a good idea to put some other shocks on besides the skyjacker hydros that come with the lift. if you have the money to spend now it will make you a lot more happy in the long run.
