5v not at VSS

Just joined the site. Bought a 1992 Cummins, 5 spd, cruise control (Manual with cruise??) 125,000 miles that was a farm truck for the last 20 years. Before that it hauled race cars around the US. Worked on some deferred maintenance issues, did the KDP (pin was where it started), overfilled the gearbox, etc, all the things I found on this site and a couple of others. Made up the looms for headlight relays last night.

Truck did it's first haul last weekend and ran great. Drove really well with a couple of door rattles, so ordering new pins and strikers. The speedo and odometer don't work; ditto the cruise control.

I see lots of posts with VSS troubles, but not one where the 5v is gone from the two wire VSS terminal. Ground wire checks good. VSS checks out.

Would someone be kind enough to tell the the routing of the wire through connectors? I could burst all the looms following it, but figure someone has done this before. I found the wiring diagrams on this site, but can't translate them into the physical locations on the truck. Maybe I'm dense, but I can learn.

Does the 5v originate at the PCM and which pin?

Also saw mention of an orange/white wire, which I found on the flat plug on the back of the gauge cluster. That one has 5v, but not sure exactly what that one does.
I could really use an assist on this.
Thanks in advance!
Scott
