5-30 motor oil. A good quality synthetic is not a bad idea, as these trannies run fairly hot. It'll hold a little over 4 quarts through the fill hole. Most overfill to 5quarts to help the input shaft bearing live longer. To overfill, you can take out one of the upper PTO cover bolts or remove the shifter and fill though the toploader.

Factory fill is 3.5 qts. 2pints = 1 quart. Overfill by one quart. I run 5 quarts= 1.5 qts overfull.

I too run 5qts and fill through the shifter. I run Synthetic 10w30 in mine, just because Wal-Mart sells it for a shade over 10 bucks for 5 qts. Ill change it out about every 18-20k or so just to be safe.

I wouldnt run anything thicker than 10w30 unless your in the south all year long. the clearances are just too small.

Okay, the Getrag requires light oil on account of pre-loaded tapered bearings.

Why, then, can a floating rear-end use 75-140 and have pre-loaded tapered roller-bearings in the hubs that carry their entire share of the load??
