Yes sir, i just finished converting mine. The reason for needing the adapter plate and starter is the torque conveter is deeper. I think the plate is a little over an inch thicker and starter nose sits in deeper.

No, I bought a input shaft - pump and valvebody from a local trans shop in salt lake. That is all you need internal wise. oh ya and I put a six pinion steel planetary in place of the four pinion aluminum one. But its not "required"

Not impossible but highly unlikely, 47 rh has double wrap L&R band, the bottom anchor points arent there in the 518-46rh cases. Would take a lot of welding and machine work. In a given model run there were no differences between input shafts and reaction shaft supports besides the fact that you had lock up and non lockup applications.

518 and 46rh are interchangable terms, all they were doing is going through their I wanna be like gm phase, about the same time as they changed from 150 half tons to 1500 half tons. 618- 47rh are interchangable terms also. I saw 6 pinion planets mentioned, those were strictly 48re parts.

Just for grins, would the input shaft, valve body, etc. be the same from a gasser 46RH as it would be in a Diesel/V10 47RH?
I know the overdrive sections are the same from 42RH up to 47RH, but how much else could be salvaged from relatively cheap gasser transmissions?
I see non-lockup first gen. transmissions all the time for cheap, would be nice to be able to convert without getting stupid.
