you would have to have a NV4500 or 2 gen auto trans...... then put the t Case in from the 2 gen(not sure if a Getrag or A518 will match up to a second gen T- case )
then figure out your steering and spring mounting considering the sec Gen has trailing arms and coil over

If its the coil spring suspension you are after I believe your best bet is to take a factory d60 and swap over all the coil stuff from the second gen d60 to the older one. I have never seen this done but there is a first for everything.

I'm lost. You want to put a solid front axle under it but keep it two wheel drive? Then maybe in the future put a divorced case in to make it four wheel drive?

Those second gen front ends are tough on the pocket book... Ball joint's, track bars, vacuum activated 4x4, Outer axle ujoints spin all the time, etc.

I've heard of the opposite, putting an old dana 60 under a second gen.

Or if you're looking for a better ride just take some leafs out and then put some air bags that should make for a smooth ride maybe?

It's a 2 wheel drive .... With coils nO straight axel ... I found a second gen straight axel for 300 the guys Gona cut the frame behind the doors that way I get all the mounts for those sway bar things idk what they are really called ... That way I have all the mounts and it will have the 2nd gen steering on it and every. Thing.. The axel was gutted to where it is a 2x4 with a straight axel so you can lift the truck and stuff I'm not looking for a better ride I'm looking to make my truck tall like a 4x4 just it won't have 4 wheel drive

Why not just buy a 4x4 and tweak that, it would probably be cheaper and easier and it already looks like a 4x4...Mark

Yea thatwould be a good idea but I got this truck for basically free... And the axel is only 300 so I've spent Mabie 700 total on this truck and it runs great .... If I had the money to buy a nice 4x4 I would of lol

i have done what you are asking..the swap ist that bad, just need to have a good bit of fab knowledge and the tools. my swap was a little more complicated as i also swapped a p-pumped motor and tranny/case at the same time. i did mine for ride comfort and a custom 3-link suspension.

steering box is easy, you can get a drop pitman arm off an 80's 3/4 ton chevy (just a saginaw 90deg spline set.) i made my own coil buckets out of some 1/4 flatbar that i bent in my muffler bender.

for the track bar i had some brackets cnc plasma cut that fit under the factory crossmember for the engine, and modified the factory 2nd gen track bar with a bushing and sleeve set up.

do a search for my posts and you can see a couple of pics of what it looks like.
