2 questions... the stock LP and towing.

1. How much power/torque will the stock diaphram LP support? Just wondering when you need so much fuel you have to change it out for the piston LP.

2. When you get above __ hp/torque on a single turbo setup, you can no longer tow due to EGT issues, due to not enough air with a single turbo

(fill in the blank)

1. My opinion barely stock.

2. Depends on the turbo, depends on how much weight you're towing, depends on the elevation you are towing at, and depends on how fast you want to go while towing.

every truck will be different so get your self a fuel pressure gauge and when you start pulling it down to 0 psi or around there then its time to upgrade the LP.

like apwatson50 said depends on a lot of things. Let us know what your plans are and someone will be able to tell you if the setup will work.

Mine still was able to produce good pressure at approx 230 rwhp, but it was a new lift pump, stock, but it was replaced right before I bought the truck. And with good enough intercooling and water injection, a single turbo should work fine for towing with whatever you can throw at it. Sled pullers could hit 3000+ deg egt, but water cools them all the way down to about 1500-1800. Same thing can be done with water injection on a tow rig, just on a smaller scale.

Non-I/C, with stock turbo and 1989 stock injectors, fuel somewhat turned up, gross-weight around 38,500, I can pull any grade around here so long as I keep a weather eye on the pyrometer and down-shift when things start to get overly hot, thus winding up the air-flow.

I doubt many ton trucks of any power/torque regularly tow any heavier for the long distances that we do.

I would not say that you could "no longer tow"; you just need to keep your priorities in mind, and build/modify your engine accordingly.

These trucks/engines are capable of breezing along with the little trailers/loads that most consider "towing"; so, like already said, it all depends on just what you intend to do.

A play truck can get by with a lot of things that will not work when the slack gets taken out.
