1st Gen. Ram - All TopicsDiscussion for all Dodge Rams prior to 1994. This includes engine, drivetrain and non-drivetrain discussions. Anything prior to 1994 should go in here.
Hey guys! I am swapping a 12v from a '94 Ram into my 1974 Dodge RV. If I use the 94 engine mounts I will have to fab up some new mount tabs to the RV frame (which is doable for me). I'm under the impression that 1st Gen engine mounts (stands?) will bolt on my engine block and will probably bolt onto my existing RV frame mounts (its a Dodge M300 frame).
Any common problems with the 1st Gen mounts? Would it be worth it for any reason (durability, vibration, easy to buy/replace???) to use 2nd Gen mounts???
Does the existing gas engine use side mounts? If so, the 1stgen route is by far the easiest.
I’m not 100% sure what you mean by “side mounts”, but I’ll take some pics and post them. It’s a 1974 with the original 440 BB engine and TF 727 transmission.
Mounts would be on either side of the engine. The other style... would be a single mount under the crank balancer area, and then 2 mounts on either side of the bellhousing.
I don't know what setup a '74 M300 chassis uses.
On my '84 ramcharger, the 318 used side mounts, and 1stgen cummins mounts bolts right into the same crossmember locations.
