1st Gen NV4500/205 Factory?
Did the 88-93 ever put a NV4500/205 in? I found that combo for sale and the guy says it is the original setup for a 92-93 cummins. He is asking 1700.00 with all the adaptors, what do ya'll think, is it worth it. Thanks.
No, definitely not original. It is a conversion many first genners do. The price might be high, depends on condition and mileage. That would have been a stock setup I believe in 94-95, not sure if the 205 was behind the NV in the 94/5 model years, but the NV was the 5 spd used for sure.
If i recall correctly,, about a month or so ago, someone posted that in SOME 93s Dodge used the nv4500 with the 205. The person who had posted it said they got their information from a factory survice manual. I have neither seen a stock fist gen NV4500 or owned a 93 sevice manual. so i dont know for sure but i would say that its possible that your lookn at a stock combo. Im sure other will chime in and either prove or disprove this statement. I would like to know if its true or not also..
The gassers had the 4500, but I don't think it was backed by a 205. Maybe a ton'r. Either way I would say its a pretty good deal. You would be hard pressed to piece it together for that. If it comes with everything.
Shoot there a wrecked one in southern part of province and he was asking 4 grand, it had the nv4500 conversion. I phone like 4 time ,must have sold it. Seems like very fair considering the darn tranny here is 1400$ plus

Thanks for the info. guys, I went and looked at it today. It is definetly a NV4500/205 29 spline t-case with adapters and linkage. The tranny turns out to be from a 97 according to a part number on the tranny and a call to the dealer parts house, so it was definetly a conversion. I went ahead and picked it up for 1700.00 plus tax. It's more than I wanted to pay but he would'nt budge. Thanks for the help.
All the 205's used with the Cummins and 5spd are 29-spline (not rare or od) and the auto's are 23-spline. I have done 6 4500 swaps and it is worth it. I even figured out how to make the stock Getrag bell work with the 4500. I think you got a good deal if it is in good shape. I sold a set up like that with a fresh rebuilt trans and all the adapters and pedals for a auto to manual swap for $2500 with no t-case and he got a deal. P.S. You need to use the correct oil in it DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT it cost $20 a quart but you will run it for over 100K so its not that bad. you need 5qts, it only calls for 4 but that's with the original t-case that has a seal on the out put of the trans. The 205 uses a collar and will alow oil to move form the trans to the cavity in the adapter between the 4500 and 205 and run the trans low on oil trust me. Even if the collar was solid and would not let the oil threw you have to remove the output seal of the trans to let the collar fit.

I traded my first gen donor truck, minus the engine for a 94 2wd NV4500 tranny, bellhousing ,engine adaptor, master/slave cylinder ( I don't know what you call it) and any other parts that I will need. It is nyceguy01 from northern UT in these fourms with a 97 chevy dullay and a 1st gen motor/NV4500. He is going to put the p-pump engine from the 94 in the 92 and cut it down to a short box truck
So we will be using both donors until we are done. When I am finished with my project I will sell the 2wd NV4500 to help with the cost.Oh yeah I'm swaping mine into a 84 k5.
What "1stgen545" said and use GL5 oil in the 4500 and remove the rear transmission seal to let the intermediate coupler ( between the tranny and the transfer case ) run in oil and fill the tranny using the top middle bolt hole in the PTO plate ( that overfills the tranny ) not the normal filler plug.

Hey "ROXXX" if you're looking for a parts truck there is a fair to very good 92 club cab with a strong stock engine and a good getrag and two spare diffs just outside of Brownvale for $2,500. I looked at it last night and it is currently available. The only reason that I didn't jump on it myself is that I am getting mine painted and I'm not in need of a parts truck right now, but couldn't help going over for a peek.
