1st Gen Injector Options...
I'm looking to get some upgraded injectors... Can you guys tell me what you recommend, what you use, what the power gains were, any problems with the injectors? where to buy? I don't know where to look, I know most people are biased on a certain brand, etc. so I'll ask you guys, in hopes for a variety of great replies. Thanks.
Also, what about governer springs...worth it?
BTW, My '92 has an HX35/40-16cm2 Hybrid Turbo, Tweaked Pump, 4"-to-5" Exhaust, etc...time for injectors. Daily Driver, 23mpg on highway average, light towing seldomly. 145k miles.

There aren't too many options for our trucks.
1) Bosch PW injectors - WAY too pricey (now) for the gains
2) POD's - smoke too much for my taste.
3) DDIII's - Great injectors but pricey. extrude honed
4) EDM's - DonM has been doing quite a bit of work for our trucks lately. I haven't heard an update or what they run.
BTW, there could be others that I don't know of. If so, I'm sure someone will let us know.
Gov spring is $13.50. Not many things can be done so cheaply. That said, I have one sitting in my garage that I will install ... one of these days.

I just put in a set of Bully Dogs. They are supposedly rated at somewhere between the PWs and PODs.
I didn't get too much gain because I have a non-intercooled truck....but I like them......truck runs smoother and pulls harder at low and mid range....and no smoke!

I had Thompson's turbo ( in OKC ) put what they called marine injectors in my 1st Gen and it pulls a lot better than it ever has. It does smoke but I don't mind.. Just though I would put this in..
I have PODs lots of power increase but quite a bit of smoke. they were $450 at Piers about a year ago. dyno to the ground 237 HP and 679 Lb FT of torque. I am considering trying EDMs they are around $700 plus cores last I checked. they think they will make the power of PODs with less smoke.
I lost 2 to 3 MPGs with the PODs. I believe the EDMs will maintain good fuel milage becuase they have more holes in the tips but a little smaller. Better atomization. the governor spring is cheap and does good things

Had a set of pods, but they smoked too bad, and YES I did try to adjust it out. Momma found out I was trying to order a set of EDM's and took away my AmEx card, guess I'll have to use my "bisquit" money to get me some new ones.

So it looks like you guys all WANT EDM's, but nobody actually has a set? lol. Why so pricey? $700 is a lot of money for that power increase... I KNOW it's worth it, but sheesh, thats a hurtin on the wallet.
I see most people running POD's and complaining about the smoke, and the mileage drop. Normally I wouldn't care about the smoke, if it wasnt too excessive, but the mileage drop concerns me.
If anyone has EDMs or knows of injectors that are better than the ones discussed...post up!
And what about these Bully Dogs? Claimed not to smoke... Anyone?

EDM's! I am getting some later this month. Don M is making EDM injectors, and he is one of the only people who have ever worked to get us away from the "same old" injectors that we have been stuck with.

They smoke less than my stockers did.
I'm happy with them.

If I were you I'd try adjusting the pump first, you may get what you want from that. It can make a real noticible difference. I bought some of the Bosch ones from e bay. They are similar to pods I guess but I think I could adjust all the smoke out. I got to the point where I was starting to lose some of that new power and quit. I should back it off some more and try and prolong the life of my trans but having too much fun for now. Without these BFGs I'd be smoking the tires all the time. I found if I gradually push on the go pedal I don't get the smoke and still get the power, if I just mash it I get smoke till about 15psi.
JMO...... but,,,,, I am using the POD's. They work for me. I chose to "live with the haze" in exchange for the upgrade. Now, having said that, you gotta know that some serious $$$ goes into the R&D for the EDM's... at least that's the normal course of events needed to develope a set of custom performance nozzles. The key is "custom". It ain't cheap.
In the end, I know, they are not cheap, but then they are not "off the shelf" injectors either...
PumpDaddy tried to tune out the haze... some have success and some don't. In this case we now have more than one option for injectors.
We can go with the proven HP POD's at a more moderate cost for those on a budget, or use the EDM's if you have a couple extra $$ to spend. Either way it's all good....
Can you believe that the Bosch 185's now cost pretty much the same as EDM's....
There is more work being done along these lines too... I think you guys have shown that the early trucks have the stones to get there and now we've got guys waking up not only to the 1st Gen turcks' potential but, the new emerging market they carry with them... that is GOOD news...

Talked to the local diesel shop guys at the Farm & Implement Show today... Since we have a booth there, I was lurking around checking out the heavy artillery.
Anyways, they couldn't help me on the pyro or the pump, prices too high, knowledge too low. BUT, I asked about the Injectors. He said for $70/ea. I can get 50hp Injectors. He said the last 1st Gen they sold them on had 240k miles, tuned pump, and exhaust only, his truck made 52hp on the dyno at the wheels with the addition of the injectors... He also said they didnt smoke any more than stock.
He wasn't sure about all the specs...so tomorrow I'm gonna talk to the shop owner and see what he can offer. I'm pretty sure I can get them down to around $50/ea, since one the the main guys needs a turbo upgrade on his GM 6.5 Turbo Diesel "show truck", but that's if I decide to go with them and not the EDM's or Bully Dogs.
