I believe they are the same besides the 518's .69 OD.

As far as I know, ATS makes some real good stuff. There's a few pulling guys running their tranny's, so I'd say they're strong enough!

I've heard good and bad about ATS tranny's, but they do have one of the best warranty's in the business. I wouldn't be afraid to try one.

For a 47rh swap, you will need a 2nd gen adapter plate(is thicker than a 1st gen since it has a lockup converter), 2nd gen starter, 2nd gen flexplate, and the torque converter unless you get an after market one, then its pretty much bolt up. There is a good thread in the sticky on doin the swap. I just picked up a 47rh the other day and will be doin this swap soon.

A note about the 518. I just rebuilt mine and there is an upgrade you can do to the overdrive to make it tougher. You have to use the disc, steels and pressure plate from a 47 to do this. The disc, steels and pressure plate are different thicknesses than stock so you get an extra cluth disc in the pack for the OD. The upgrade was listed in a trans parts book I have at home with all of the part #'s. By the way, trans upgrades are worth the money.

on adjusting the idle screw it is sometimes easier to wait until you install a 3200 spring because then the top of the pump will be off and you can run the screw out clean the threads and put in the pump from the front so you can adjust it easier (thankyou jbradley)
