1993 abs/brake issues?

while i am stoped with my foot on the brake the brake light and abs light on the dash will light this dont happen every time just some times and go's out the min i take my foot of the pedal any ideas ??

Most likely the vacuum pump's getting weak. You may also notice the brake pedal eases down some with light pressure when the lights are on. Bringing the engines RPM's up increases the vacuum, so that there's enough to make the brake booster work right, shutting up the brake lights.

You may find it gets worse when it get cold out.



At least that's how it works on my mess.

The power steering pump's located on the butt of the vacuum pump (down under the injector pump). It's a direct drive affair. It seems I've read where the two need particular attention at the drive coupling as they're kinda funny about alignment. Others who've dealt with it would know more about that.


Supposedly the vacuum pump can be easily rebuilt, but may cost a bit to have others to do it. Seems there's some jigs involved. I dunno .. . . .
