I am glad I did it. I should have removed it first however. I admit that I get stubborn when I am in a hurry to get things moving. I don't know what size wrench it is, but I now know that I can pull it apart with nothing but a crescent wrench so in my book it was a good mod. This way I can get it going on the side of the road next time it decides to wear out. (I used up all of my good luck when it died in my garage)

Mine failed in the "won't shut off" mode over the weekend. Hacked off the excess bracked with a sabre saw (very carefully, of course), removed the solenoid with a 1" open end wrench, stretched the spring just a bit, and reassembled. Works like a champ now. Spare on order for the glovebox for the next time it fails.
