Lost a brake caliper?

Dana 44 in front with 4500 lb heavy duty brakes on 1990 CTD and drivers side brake caliper came off. Everything was correct- driven more than 1800 miles. How could this happen? Never heard of it happening. What do you think?

What do I think?

First thing I think is... why is there a Dana 44 front axle under your CTD truck?

Let me give a little back history. It's actually a 61. The reason I said 44 was because the cab has been changed and it was off a gas truck so in my old age I seemed to have mixed them up. Regardless my caliper seems to have mysteriously came off and was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem like this.

That's fairly common with calipers using a drive-in wedge/lock plate to secure them.

Try new hardware, or a better caliper casting. Failing that, you may have to build up the bracket edge with weld and grind it flat.
