14 bolt chevy rear
What year models do the 14 bolt chevy 3 bearing pinion rearends out of the chevy trucks work in our trucks. My rearend is making a popping noise like a tooth is jumping when turning on my 92. It only does this when turning but not when running straight. Going to pull the diff. cover today and see whats up in there. I rebuilt the 1st rearend in it and had a mechanic shop do the 2nd one. But something is wrong somewhere, bad carrier that we didn't catch, bent housing, or something to cause 2 rearends to go bad in 30k miles. Replaced the ring and pinion both times with new bearings "yes with american made bearings". Any ideas on what's up with it?
ok let me reword this cut the shock mount's off and it should bolt right in I believe I had to use a adapter on brake line but other then that it bolted in I use to have 2 seperate rearend's one was 410 the other was 456 if I wanted the 456 I would just swap everything from end of axle to other one and go
If you're popping around corners, you are WAAAAAYYYYY past fixing it with a tube or 6 of friction modifier. Time to redo the clutches. If you get lucky, you can do it with just the clutches and not have to redo the bearings again.
Why shops dont replace LS clutches when the rebuild a differential is beyond my comprehension- it isnt difficult at all. I had to rebuild one last spring in a truck my fiancee's shop had JUST rebuilt (500mi or less). Didnt touch the LS clutches (280K). I asked the shop owner why not, and he said "We dont open up carriers when we rebild differentials." I then told him that they dont really rebuild diffs, then, do they?
The guy who sold us the truck was peeved about it as well, and hasnt been back near as often. *I* can follow the instructions in the clutch kit, and it last 100K+, why cant everyone else?

I added the bottle of friction modifier and it quitened up. But if you gas on it hard rounding a sharp turn it will chatter so I see clutches in my future. I'm like you why don't they do the clutches too, but I can't say anything because when I rebuilt it the first time I didn't either. I just put a ring and pinion with new bearings and went on but I popped a tooth off th ring gear the next week doing something stupid. When you jerk on a stuck big truck you deserve to bust another rearend.
