Wrote a book--YIPEE Maintenance Completed!
Many of you have been holding my hand as I dug into my truck's basic stuff that needed doing, kdp/crank seal, rebuild VP and replace PS pump,
fixin' up fuel lines including new prefilter strainer (lost the preheater),
replaced fuel solenoid boot and cleaned 'er up, new cone filter on my K&N FIPK2, new radiator hoses and removed and reassembled turbo/intercooler tubes, boots etc, ?more I can't remember right now...
collateral damage--I turned the little rubber boot trying to install a fuel(relay or solenoid?) diode, and it broke the copper wire inside the starter,...mangled the diode too, so now have a new starter and no diode...
but otherwise nothing broken that I know about yet!
(still have an overheating brake issue, 'nother thread)
I can't believe how much quieter and smoother the truck runs--it can't be from the stuff I did, its all on the left side (driver's side) of the engine...
I can only guess its the new K&Ncone? I thought I'd lost power but doesn't seem like it at all...
SO, if this stuff is all good, I"M READY FOR POWER INCREASE!
gauges first, and then gotta figure out how much power vs how much I want to replace my clutch (or is it tranny?)
So I'll have to go conservative, after all, its mostly for towing horse trailer etc.
I learned a few things in the turning the wrench dept, don't even want to tackle the tricky mechanic kind of stuff....I spent MOST of my time looking for the tool I just used, the nuts I just removed, the part I dropped into the PS reservoir or somewhere in the engine...jeeze, and I had coffee cans and magnetic bowls and everything...Increased my time spent 5 or 6 fold!
Easily spent the money I saved in the time invested, but it was really fun, 'specially after I managed to fix every problem I created.
Thanks again to everybody here, I learned from other people's posts as well as from the good folks who chimed in to help me out
This forum is my favorite because of the folks here.
