Won't shutoff

I have 95 dodge 2500 when i turn off key eng. won't shutoff cked shutoff sol seems to work normally. When I torn key to start the sol pulls up and stays up in run. When I turn key off the sol. drops but wont shut down. If I reach in and flip lever a few times it will stop. Can the lever slip on shaft or do I need new injector pump.

When you go to manually turn it off, can you push the lever down farther? If not, is the reason that there is no more throw on the fuel lever or that the solenoid is preventing it?

Worst case , take the large hose off of the intake , use a small piece of wood [ big enough to cover intake ] and block it off .
Its common for the starter solenoid to have the contacts spot weld them selves together , keeping electrical going to shut fuel off solenoid .
There are larger contacts avalable , also a diode that keeps this from happening in future , at this site .

You can unplug the fuel solenoid to shut it off and I would do so until you fix it as it does sound like the starter is grounding back through the solenoid which will burn up the solenoid. Do the 2 repairs from Foster truck.

On the 12V engines there is no need to cut off air to kill the engine- you have a handy fuel shut off lever right on the side of the IP where the fuel solenoid is- after all, that's what the solenoid is there for in the first place.

That not true , I said worst case , it could be sucking oil / fuel from some where , so worst case the only way to shut off is block intake , its not uncommon , I have had to do it to industrial engines & have heard many have to do the same , I have seen where they will suck oil out of the crank case , till its empty .

I'll give you that that is the worst case shut down scenerio but that is always offered to someone on here as the first option when the truck won't shut down and it should not be- it is the last option and should be suggested as such. The way you're response phrased it doesn't show other options- Dartmouth says make sure solenoid is going far enough to shut off fuel, then you said "at worst case block the air intake" There's nothing offered in between.
I don't know enough about all the IP's on these or the fuel systems of the 24V, so I don't know if that is the only option on a 24V, or a 3rd gen (generally- pulling the main ECM fuse in the fuse panel will kill any generation truck, gas or diesel.)
In all fairness,if your engine sucks oil out of the crank case into the combustion chamber and continues to run on it you have major issues with that engine that require a rebuild anyway, right?

Wrong again , I gave him the most common cause for his yr & mdl .
Its bad form to get too critical in an advice forum , like once in a while some one will go on & on about somebodies spelling .
