KDP not good pic. inside

I guess I waited to long. But I think I got lucky. Can't see any damage other than the hole in the cover. Now do I go out and get another pin to put in its place (tab it of course) or not worry about it? Also the cover is metal right. So I can beat the hole back in, weld it, and put alittle rtv inside of it for insurance. Heres some pictures............

Cover seems to be some sort of plastic. I wouldn't try to weld it.

No its metal. But don't worry I just ordered a new one from the local dodge dealership (My friend workd there so I can get parts at cost). I almost unwrapped the welding leads but after cleaning the surface with a wire wheel, my friend (that works at dodge) stopped by and said he could get the cover by tomorrow so I said screw it and will pick it up tomorrow after work.

Definitely put a new tab in as it locates the case and is critical where gear alignment is concerned. You are one luck sunofapup....

I wish I had that good of luck. Everything in my house needs to be fixed or has parts waiting to go on now.

1. truck kdp got me plus my new trans is sitting in the garage waiting to be installed.http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g4...scstuff007.jpg

2. car has a k-frame and lower controls sitting next to the trans for the truck in garage.
3. yfz 450 has the motor in pieces on my work bench waiting for right half of case to show up in mail.http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g4...scstuff009.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g4...scstuff010.jpg
4. 700 griz handlebars got bent bad last weekend riding so thats also taken apart waiting for new ones in mail.
5. track opens up this weekend and still haven't finished car (can't get it off the trailer in back yard until truck is fixed) or repaired my pit bike.
6. And to top it all off my little rc car decided to burn up the speed controller a few minutes ago, now I have nothing that I can do until parts start showing up.

I wish my luck was better

As stated above, having a pin is important. Without it, the case can move slowly over time. The bolts only get it roughly centered and the pin gets it exact. If you have a metal lathe, you could make a pin really quickly and if not, it is probably easier to just order one.

As for the timing cover, I would just get a new one. You might well warp the old one welding on iti then it would leak.

Sounds like you've got a lot of good projects going.

I was just gonna get a 5/16 round rod from a hardware store and bull nose the tip to get it in there and cut it to length. I ordered a new cover already. Too many projects really but I like working on stuff (mostly other peoples).

May I suggest removing the bolts, one at a time, that hold the timing case on clean them and apply loc-tight and retorque them. I think one, maybe two are hidden. Go to TST web site for instructions.

Yea i agree with this there was a few bolts loose on my cover when my pin fell out... i got pretty lucky also min just put a small crack the case... we were bein lazy so we just cleaned the crack real good n filled it with jb weld and presto no more leak.
