wierd howling noise?

I got this wierd howling noise coming from my drivers side of the engine, it doesn't seem to change pitch with the RPM either. It does it driving and sitting in park. I can't figure out where its coming from. and my brakes are acting up too, sometimes my brake light will come on when I go to stop and its harder to stop.

Sounds like its something to do with the vac pump , the red brake light is comming on because you are low on vacuum; causing low power assist to the brake booster.

Remove the belt and see if noise goes away, that will narrow it down.Just don't run the engine hot.

I second what Hoser said, It sound to me that you might have a bad vacume line to your brake booster. Or, is it the clutch fan gecause when mine heats up some, the clutch fan kicks on and it has a weird noise to it. You may have a blown brake line(which has nothing to do with a noise, but it might answer your funky brake pedle feeling) I really dont know, just throwing some suggestions at you. Also some previous experience. Hope it helps.

I don't think its the fan because it does it when its cold too, and the howling doesn't change with RPMs. if the vac pump was going bad wouldn't the howl change with RPMs too?

how can I test the vacuum pump? I pulled off one of the lines and stuck my finger over it, and it seems to be pulling good?
