Why 14cm housing?
Why 14cm housing?
I have had the Banks 14cm turbo housing on here for several years.
The 14cm housing has been "just ok", but not great, spoolup mediocre, and just no low-end torque at all.
EGT's have been an issue at higher altitudes, even running empty.
Now I'm towing a lot, and the EGT's are a big problem.
I talked to Randy at Reliable Diesel, and he said the 14cm housing was the problem.
I had him change the 14cm housing back to a 12cm (this is an HX35 turbo).
The results are amazing. Now spoolup is quite good, low-end torque is WAY up, and EGT's dropped dramatically! I don't have to push the go-pedal down nearly so far for the same power.
We kept the Banks Big-Head wastegate controller, and everything else the same.
Since I never will see rpm's above 2700 (de-fuelling occurs there) high-rpm EGT's are just not an issue.
The engine runs much more quietly and smoothly, making the wife happy.
So, its not "one size fits all"
in the exhaust housing game. A larger housing will actually raise EGT's sometimes. It depends on RPM, load, fueling, and compressor end characteristics. Hey, I learned something.
