Wilderness:
It sounds like maybe you have a bad EGT gauge, is it an Autometer? If so, maybe you should try to get it repaired or replaced. Ilikebikes is right, it would really suck if damaged your engine because of a bad gauge.

Infidel:
What's your take on which is the most reliable EGT gauge? I'm trying to decide between Autometer and Isspro. I've heard bad and good things about both of them. I've also heard the Westach gauges are good, but I don't like the two-in-one design.

I see similar numbers since I installed the hybrid turbo on the truck. They were definatly higher before the turbo swap. Only my WOT #s are higher and those rarley break 1000 degrees. This is an Isspro gauge.

If it's an autometer, give 'em a ring and tell them what's up. They replaced 2 of my gauges with brand new ones, no questions asked.

I also think you have a bad gauge. My truck will take a few minutes to cool down to 350, let alone drive around town at that temp...

My max is down to 1785* on the X-monitor...timing it back to 17* dropped it 150*

I'm still trying to decide if I wanna pull the 022 DV's for the 181's, or slide the plate a bit....Edge BB charger going on next weekend, then we'll see what happens

I vote bad pyro, or possibly a it's not installed exactly right

I like Isspro better than Autometer.
What I prefer even more no matter what the brand is a pyro that doesn't have an amplifier. Wires run from the probe straight to the gauge, the only power needed is for the lighting.

Today is my first full day with it in and I stayed around 450-500* taking it easy. Normal up around 800. Still have'nt passed 900 though. Hey Infidel, what if the probe was too close to the divider, would that cause low numbers too? And yes it's autometer, ultra lite full sweep and it's slow moving. Uh Oh that's all I need, it took me four weeks to get the guage and now it might not be working right?

I run a Autometer Phantom series EGT gauge, when plate was stock it was hard to get over 900* even towing. Ran between 500-600* at 65mph, max boost was 22psi, about 250* idiling.

Now with the homemade 100 plate slid fwd, it will get to 1400* real quick. Still runs 550-600*@ 65mph and 250*at idle.
It may be the pyro is too close to the divider and not in the full stream of exhaust causing the slow reading, but IMHO temps sound normal for a stock engine.

That was my thought too, but tomorrow is the Big Day. KDP, 3k gov spring, #11, water pump, boost elbow. I'll let you guys know what happens then. I fear I have a bad injector or air in fuel. I would think that would cause lower egt's, after all less fuel- less heat. The peak on egt's is in OD on a two lane locked in TC, it seems to boost harder then. Although I don't know how much boot as my gauge still is'nt in yet.

B.T.W. The needle is'nt super slow, it's about like the voltage meter when your grid heater cycles.

when mine was stock i ra 300* at idle, then 450-800 around town depending how heavy my foot was. then on the highway all i got was 1100 wot. normal cruising 500-600 at 75mph. Now with these different deals i get to 1400 at most... and cruise about 600-650, and in the city at 550 to 1000.
I have an isspro gauge... in manifold... for a stock truck his numbers seem to be about 100 degrees too low from my experience (that doesnt say a whole lot though

What's the best way to lower egt's? Let off the gas? or is there a way to cool it down while still bumping up the fuel. I want to use the #11 plate cause I work with the truck and tow occasionally, but I want good egt's at the same time. After market turbo?

Larger free flowing exhaust will help lower EGT's as will a bigger turbo. Advancing the IP timing also helps some. but the right foot ultimately controls the temps the best.

Holy Cow! I know this is a little more performance related but I did all my mods todayexcept the gov springs. #11 plate, KDP KILLED!! water pump and timing @16*. I am in love with a new truck! But to the subject at hand, my egt's went up about 100-150* across the board. But still no 1200's or more. But I never really push it too hard. Once I do the gov, I have a feeling they will go a little higher and faster. I really don't think my guage is wrong because I light foot my truck for the most part. However I did spin it around tonight on the wet road on accident. I can't imagine what you guys with 100's are doing, mine is a whole new beast and I love it!

Well guys I'm headed too Kentucky tonight and won't be able to check in for the rest of the week. This is my first o.t.r trip so I'm interested in seeing how the truck does. I got my boost gauge in today and I got on the gas and hit close to 30psi @ w.o.t. But the EGT's only hit about 1150* but I did'nt hold the throttle but for a sec. I'll update u guys when I get back and tell you how she runs. I am well pleased at how good the truck runs now but I can already forsee tranny problems just around the corner with all this new power.

What should I expect as far as egt's and boost on the highway and what is the best overall speed for mpg's thanks, Chad

loook for like 5-10 psi at cruising, 30 psi max is about good for the output of the stock charger. EGT's about 600 degrees is the quilibrium i see in my truck
